World
Social Forum 2004, Will Be Held in Mumbai
The World Social
Forum, India consultation meeting held at Nagpur, on 21-22 March, 2003,
has decided to host the World Social Forum, 2004 in Mumbai in India.
A brief note on the decision as well as information regarding the All
India Council meeting to be held in Delhi on 7-8 April, 2003
Principal
decisions of the Nagpur meeting:
Mumbai was the
consensus decision based on the understanding that the WSF must be inclusive
and must not be seen just as an event but as a process that will provide
mass movements and organisations the impetus to deepen the struggle
against neo-liberal and imperialist globalisation and also in facing
the challenges of religious sectarianism that has taken on fascist overtones
in India.
Resolution
on organisation:
This all India
Consultation resolves to constitute a Indian Council reflective of all
social groups / movements / ideological groupings / mass organisations
/ regions including marginalised sections like Dalits, Adivasis, unorganised
sector, women, and minorities reflecting the plurality of the Indian
situation, opposing imperialist globalisation, communalism and casteism
and committed to building another world. This India Council would have
the right to co-opt members to fill gaps in representation including
incorporating representatives of state processes and for functional
reasons, and would meet at least once every 3 months. All members must
adhere to the charter of the WSF and make voluntary contributions
