RVK Satyanarayana, the General Secretary of the OPDR (Organization for the Protection of Democratic Rights, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh States) and a leading functionary of the UCCRI(ML), passed away in the early hours of 8-10-2016 while battling his illness. He was suffering from chronic kidney failure and its various complications for several years. He was under dialysis for the last 3 years. He developed high fever and was hospitalized on 30-09-2016. His condition worsened and he could not recover inspite of the best efforts of the doctors and passed away at 12.01 A.M. of 8-10-2016. He was 73 years old at the time of his death and is survived by his wife and son.

He was born in 1943 in a lower middle class Telugu family at Pattiseema, in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, as the eldest son of late Sheshamma and Raghava Rao. His father, Raghava Rao, was employed for quite some time in the steel city of Jamshedpur of the then Bihar State and the present Jharkhand. It is here that Comrade RVK spent his growing years. He had his upbringing and schooling in this Hindi-speaking and working class area which left a lasting impression on him. He finished his graduation [BSC (MPC)] in Mathematics and Sciences from Hindu college in Guntur city of Andhra Pradesh during 1960-’63. Subsequently,at a later stage, he attended the teachers’ training course and got his B.Ed. degree at a later stage. He joined a teaching job at Hyderabad and worked as a teacher at Lalgirji Maheshgirji School (known as LMG School from 1966-1974) and then at the Viveka Vardhini High School (from 1975-2001). He came in contact with the Telangana Aided and Private Teachers Guild in 1966 and became an active functionary of this organization from then onwards.

He was attracted towards the communist revolutionary politics and ideology during this period, particularly in 1969. But because of severe repression he could come into contact with communist revolutionary literature only in 1972. Ever since, he was associated with communist revolutionary politics. He became an active functionary of communist revolutionaries from 1975 onwards and remained so till the end. As a communist revolutionary, he took upon himself the responsibility of striving for the democratic rights of all sections of the struggling people, rural poor and the working class in particular. He was a leading functionary of the Organization for Protection of Democratic Rights ever since it was formed in 1975 in its founding conference. He remained true to its ideals till the last breath of his life. He worked tirelessly and relentlessly to stand by the rights of struggling rural poor, working class and other sections of the people. He was a leading functionary of the India-China Friendship Association (ICFA) and took an active part in its great struggles to foster friendship between the people of the two biggest countries of the world who together constitute more than two and half billions i.e. forty percent of the world’s population.
As we have said above, he was an active functionary of the teachers’ organization to which he belonged. But he associated himself with struggles of the workersorganizations under various trade unions. The struggles of the rice mill workers at Hyderabad, of the workers of Sanghi Textiles at Hyderabad and of the coal mine workers of Telangana under the Singareni Gani Karmika Sangham (SGKS) are some examples. He stood with them undeterred by the severe repression let loose by the government.

He was a regular and unfailing participant at the numerous public meetings of struggling people held under various banners during all these decades. He exhorted the people to embark on the path of revolutionary struggles which alone can emancipate them from oppression and exploitation. As a communist revolutionary functionary, he strived for the protection of the democratic rights of all sections of the struggling people, rural poor and the working class in particular. He was by their side whenever they needed such support most, particularly when facing intense repression of the ruling classes. He was associated with almost all the struggles of the rural poor organized by the Grameena Pedala Sangham (GPS – Organization of Rural Poor) and the various workers’ struggles waged by the trade unions he was closely associated with. It is for this reason that the struggling rural poor and workers regarded him as their comrade-in-arms on whom they could rely.

He explained the significance of the teachings of Comrades DV and TN at various meetings not only in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana but also in the Hindi speaking States of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Delhi. His knowledge of Hindi came in handy for this purpose. He undertook the task of translation of this valuable theoretical treasure, particularly the writings of Comrade DV – which was available in Telugu and English – into the Hindi language with which he was conversant. He spent a good part of the last decade of his life in fulfilling this onerous task. He succeeded in finishing the translation of the most important works of Comrade DV Rao.
