In an unprecedented draconian action Government of India has imposed one day ban, November 9, on the NDTV India for not following the rule 6(1)(p) of cable TV Network Rules 1994, for showing the coverage of the Pathankot attack which has compromised the security and sovereignty of the country. This is a naked violation of freedom of press and freedom of expression guaranteed under Indian Constitution. It reminds us of the dark days of Emergency.
In Solidarity With NDTV, we demand that all Indian Media Should GO OFF AIR, STOP PRINTING, STOP PUBLISHING, On November 9. In Solidarity With NDTV Countercurrents.org will not be publishing on November 9.
All impartial media journalists should express dissent and organise meetings against imposition of such draconian rule. Every paper and news magazine should come out with solidarity statements with NDTV andenlist people’s support for free and fair journalism.
This decision by Counter currents is highly appreciated.
It’s unfortunate that we are banning media without imposing emergency. The current dispensation inaction on the appointment of Judges has led the Chief Justice conclude that the center is trying to decimate Judiciary!
I AM NOT SURPRISED GIVEN THE FASCIST MINDSET OF THE GOVT. LED BY BJP-RSS COMBINE. WE NEED TO FIGHT THE FASCIST IDEOLOGY AND ITS PRACTICE. Monirul Hussain
