Socialism or Barbarism: The Urgency of EcoSocialism In The Age of Global Warming

59% of Indians, or 781,261,099 men and women in India, are of working age, that is to say, over the age of 20. India has 394600000 acres of cultivable land and 196250791 acres of forests, a total of 590850791 acres of land where man and animals may stay and live. India thus has a labour availability, that is to say adult labourers available per acre, of 1.32 manyears. There is enough cultivable land and forest for 20 adults to jointly look after a bit over 15 acres.

The wage needed to entice those of us from the cities to return to the land from our present positions would be say Rs 1000 per day. So the required level of GDP would be 234.4 trillion Rupees, up by 53% from the present 152.51 trillion Rupees.

To get this redistribution of wealth from polluting to non-polluting work, the Government of India must make its Green Mission a reality by reallocating money creation from private corporate (interest bearing and repayable) loans, to social public (zero coupon perpetual) bonds. This will provide the suitable form of money, akin to cash, a kind of citizen’s equity, for agriculture and forestry.

To keep up with population growth in the short and medium term, such money creation would also need to grow at 1.2%, as would labour productivity per acre. Once population growth is zero money creation can stop and what is there can simply circulate.

Labour productivity would be measured in output of food, biomass, ecological services. A happiness level of society could also be measured. And it would also be quantified in terms of net tonnes carbon dioxide sequestered per man-year.

Such an economy would forget about electricity and petroleum which are a total waste of time and energy and money: it would instead concentrate on achieving full employment for achieving maximum productivity socially and ecologically.

Power generation in India in 2016-2017 was 1236.39 TWh or 1236390000 MWh. Manpower energy availability is 2500 kilocalories per day, or 2.9 kWh per day, which for 300 days a year work is 681332354 MWh. Thus manpower availability in India today is 55% of present electricity generation.

We don’t need electricity at all. It is a hindrance to social and ecological productivity. It destroys society based on ecology and causes global warming, and whether renewable or not, commercial energy displaces labour, rendering us unemployed. It also kills other living beings with its careless power.

Precisely why so much emphasis is put on electricity and petroleum development, infrastructure built with cement, and corporate profit, by the fascists, is beyond me. After all we have enough people and cultivable land and forest land for animals and people to a) stay, and at the same time b) create enough carbon sequestration capacity to draw down at least a few parts per million of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere every year as well as c) shield ourselves from high temperature exposure through tree cover, as well as d) feed, clothe and house ourselves, the animals and the soil organisms and thus e) assure a healthy life for all and reverse the sixth biodiversity extinction.

I guess the fascists including Narendra Modi, Arun Jaitley and the BJP, who have not shied away from breaking the law whilst promoting development, do it for the glory of Hindu Rashtra in this world: In any case most certainly not for the good of people and planet. Already the National Green Tribunal that was the pride of India from 2010 onwards and the most powerful environmental court in the world, defending Right to Life, lies in tatters.

The aim of the Sangh Parivar and its political wing the Bharatya Janata Party is to overthrow the Constitution of India for to achieve the glory of Hindu Rashtra in the world. In the end neither world nor India will be left, only saffron flag dangling in a depopulated and ecologically denuded landscape.
