NAPM Hails The Victory of #KisanLongMarch in Maharashtra

New Delhi / Mumbai March 12: Seven days after the Kisan Long March of 50,000 small and marginal farmers have finally resulted in a positive outcome with  Maharashtra government accepting all the demands raised by All India Kisan Sabha. National Alliance of People’s Movements (NAPM) congratulates the struggle of the farmers and adivasis and hopes that the Fadnavis government will not renegade on this again. The farmers’ united action also exposes the government false propaganda that was being continually spread against the Kisan Long March. As this was not enough Chief Minister himself tried to discredit the struggle of farmers by saying that all those participated in the long march are not farmers but tribals. He thinks tribals cannot be farmers. They are ignorant and their arrogance only shows how much out of touch and distanced they are with the social realities of the country today.

We support the rightful demands of the Kisan Long March which not only talks about the agrarian debt waiver but also the remunerative prices and have undertaken the issue of implementation of forest rights act, which was primarily aimed at addressing the historical injustice faced by the adivasis in this country. We also welcome the opposition to the disastrous river linking projects which are going to put a death nail in India’s rivers and disturb the ecological balance. They are also going to have huge social costs because they will cause massive displacement and submergence of so many of the tribal communities and farm land. Many of our affiliated organisations have witnessed this across the country and faced submergence and displacement by many of the dams India has built. We have opposed this and will continue to do this.

This is a government of Jumlas, since they are genetically anti farmer and anti poor and pro-company and corporations. BJP is a party of the corporates and for the corporates and concerned only about their well being as is shown in every policy move they have made in last four years of their rule. We condemn this attempt at subverting the democratic norms and diversion of every resource in the service of Indian and Global capital by the BJP government at the cost of the labouring poor and masses of this country.

The #LongMarch has ended with the Maharashtra government accepting the demands and hope that they don’t backtrack and fulfil all the demands in the time period it has promised. We have had the experience of BJP government be it at the Centre or in Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan which made tall promises in response to the Mandsaur police firing or the struggle of farmers in Sikar, Rajasthan, they have renegaded on all. So, we hope for the best and if not vow to continue to struggle with AIKS and other farmers groups to achieve justice and dignity through Bhumi Adhikar Andolan or All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, pan India platform of farmers and workers.
