Ganatantrik Adhikar Suraksha Sanghatana, Odisha condemns the arrest of Shri Pravash Pruseth of Burla in the district of Sambalpur under Sec. 504 & 506 of IPC for his mere Facebook posting. GASS will definitely bring this undemocratic and unconstitutional act of Police Administration to the notice of the National Human Rights Commission.
The Facebook posting of Shri Pruseth has simply pointed out to the stalemate situation of Sambalpur district for last six months due to agitation for the establishment of the second High Court bench in western Odisha. He has only protested against the unending sufferings of common people due to the closure of all government offices in the district including Tehsil office, agriculture office, revenue office, collectorate office etc. for last six months. He also expressed anger in FB over stony silence of the local MLA to this aspect as well as the callousness of Administration as a whole.
Ganatantrik Adhikar Suraksha Sanghatana, Odisha supports the demand of establishing of the High Court Bench at Sambalpur. But this highhandedness of arresting Mr. Pruseth for mere Facebook posting is against the constitutional rights of freedom of expression. We demand the immediate release of Shri Pravash Pruseth. We urge before the government of Odisha to come with a circular for the opening of High Court bench in western Odisha soon.
