The workers of Zydus Company located in Sitarganj, Uttarakhand are persistently demanding action for the last 214 days.On January 18, under the banner of Zydus Wellness Employees Union affiliated to AICCTU, the labourers facing illegal detention organized a torch rally.

The union alleges that even after the orders of the High Court Nainital and Sitarganj administration, Zydus Management refuses to terminate the closure of the factory.

It is to be known that on 17 June 2022, the Zydus Wellness Company had closed the factory without any prior notice. The workers knew about this through a notice pasted on the factory gate. After this, from June 18, 2022 till today, the company gate is locked.

The union says that Zydus workers are continuously demanding resumption of work. Reluctantly the government has not yet been able to open the Zydus Sitarganj factory. The Labour Secretary in his order has declared this detention legally illegal.

The dismissed labourers assert that the government is supporting the capitalists, the Labour Ministry is at the mercy of the Chief Minister and the youth of Uttarakhand are facing the wrath of unemployment.

Zydus Wellness Employees Union says that for the last 7 months continuously the workers have been on the verge of starvation, yet the government is paying deaf ear. This incited Zydus workers to stage a huge torch rally on Wednesday evening. This rally was taken out from Nakulia Ambedkar Ground to Nakulia Ambedkar Ground.

Through this rally, the workers expressed their bitter rage against the Zydus management and the government and declared launching a huge mass movement.

The union says that if the factory is not opened as soon as possible, the sacked workers will be forced to launch a massive mass agitation. The full responsibilities lay with the government.

Municipality President Hari joined hands with the torch rally organized by the workers. Dubey says that the continuous migration of companies in Sidcul is affecting the Sitarganj area as well. He said that it has had a telling effect on the livelihood of the labourers associated with the business..

Dubey has urged the state government to stop the companies migrating continuously in Sidcul.

It is noteworthy that Zydus Company, which manufactures Complan and Glucon-D, employed about 1,200 contract workers, including 250 permanent ones. Due to the sudden closure of the factory on June 17, 2022, all the above workers livelihood. has been placed in jeopardy.

The first demand of Zydus Wellness Employees Union affiliated AICCTU is that the plant should be opened by concluding the above illegal closure of the factory and all the workers should be reinstated.

The second demand of the union is that all the fired workers working in the factory should be paid their wages from June 18, 2022 till now.

In the torch rally organized on Wednesday, AICCTU President Matiyali, Prof. Sushila Tiwari Madhyavidyalaya. Deepak Kohli, Regional Sidcul Karmakar, Sidcul Joint Morya, Ranjana Rana, Bhawna Pant, Leeladhar, Anita, Khima Pant, Ritu, Sabina, Jyoti Chand, Bhaskar Anil, Umesh Gola, Deepak Nayal, Dharmendra Singh, Puran Bhakuni, Kamlesh, Charu, Many laborers like Pradeep Kumar, Amit Dubey, Mithun, Kashi, Lalit Chand, etc. were present.

It is a routine feature in India for factories to be closed without notice to workers and no compensation wages paid after closure. The agitation has enabled the workers to sharpen class consciousness and understand manoeuvres of the factory management who contravene even orders of high court. We must complement their tenacity in confronting the management for their rights.
