Open Letter To Australian MPs Re Horrendous US Alliance Lying, War Crimes & Regime Changing

australian troops cartoon

Careful accounting reveals 85 instances of the US attempting to overthrow foreign governments since WW2 and that the US was successful in 50 instances, with craven US lackey Australia being involved in 8 of these regime changes. A detailed and documented summary of this gross and criminal US violation of Humanity has been sent as an Open Letter to all Australian MPs and thence to a huge number of MPs and media globally. The Silence has been Deafening in the global US Empire.

This Open Letter about this horrendous catalogue of US and Australian criminality was not simply about “bearing witness” about  immense crimes but was also by way of an experiment to explore the extent of Western Mainstream lying by omission about huge US Alliance crimes. So far the result has been utter silence – not a pip from MPs and media in Australia and around the world. This is a shocking demonstration of the extent of American  “fake news through lying by omission” not just in the US but in US lackey Australia and the US-dominated English-speaking world in general.

The Open Letter to Australian MPs re US Alliance war crimes is reproduced below

LETTER.

Dear Senator, Honorable Member, fellow humanitarian etc,

Open Letter to Australian MPs re US Alliance war crimes

Australia has been involved in all post-1950 US Asian wars, atrocities associated with 40 million Asian deaths from violence and war-imposed deprivation. War is the penultimate in racism and genocide the ultimate. Peace is the only way but silence kills and silence is complicity. Set out below  is a summary of US, Australian and US Alliance violation of other countries since 1945.

The US is a horrendous serial invader of other countries. Apart from inevitable border spats, most countries in the world have not invaded other countries. Costa Rica does not even have an army. In stark contrast, the US has invaded 72 countries (52 since WW2), has committed 469 invasions from 1798 onwards, including 251 invasions since 1991 (according to the US Congressional  Research Service), has 800 military bases in over 70 countries, and subverts all countries [1].

A list of instances of the US attempting  to overthrow foreign governments since WW2 by world famous US analyst and writer William Blum (1933-2018; author of “The CIA: A Forgotten History”, 1986,  “Killing Hope: U.S. Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II”, 1995, “Rogue State: A Guide to the World’s Only Superpower”, 2000,  “West-Bloc Dissident: A Cold War Memoir”, 2002,  and “Freeing the World to Death: Essays on the American Empire”, 2004).

Quote: “Instances of the United States overthrowing, or attempting to overthrow, a foreign government since the Second World War (* indicates successful ouster of a government)  China 1949 to early 1960s; Albania 1949-53; East Germany 1950s; Iran 1953 *; Guatemala 1954 *; Costa Rica mid-1950s; Syria 1956-7; Egypt 1957; Indonesia 1957-8; British Guiana 1953-64 *; Iraq 1963 *; North Vietnam 1945-73; Cambodia 1955-70 *; Laos 1958 *, 1959 *, 1960 *; Ecuador 1960-63 *; Congo 1960 *; France 1965; Brazil 1962-64 *; Dominican Republic 1963 *; Cuba 1959 to present; Bolivia 1964 *; Indonesia 1965 *;  Ghana 1966 *; Chile 1964-73 *; Greece 1967 *; Costa Rica 1970-71; Bolivia 1971 *; Australia 1973-75 *; Angola 1975, 1980s; Zaire 1975; Portugal 1974-76 *; Jamaica 1976-80 *; Seychelles 1979-81; Chad 1981-82 *; Grenada 1983 *; South Yemen 1982-84; Suriname 1982-84; Fiji 1987 *; Libya 1980s; Nicaragua 1981-90 *; Panama 1989 *; Bulgaria 1990 *; Albania 1991 *; Iraq 1991; Afghanistan 1980s *; Somalia 1993; Yugoslavia 1999-2000 *; Ecuador 2000 *; Afghanistan 2001 *; Venezuela 2002 *; Iraq 2003 *; Haiti 2004 *; Somalia 2007 to present; Honduras 2009 *; Libya 2011 *; Syria 2012; Ukraine 2014 * “ [2].

Update: North Korea, 1950 onwards, Eritrea 1960s onwards; Ethiopia 1970s onwards; Sudan 1970s onwards; Congo (Zaire) 1960s onwards *; Timor L’Este 1975 *;  Argentina 1976 *; Uganda 1977; Iran 1979 onwards; Congo (Zaire) 1996-1997 *; Uganda 1977; Rwanda, 1990s onwards; Fiji 2000 *; Venezuela 2000 onwards; Kyrgyzstan 2005 *; Occupied Palestinian Territories 2006 *; Syria 2005-2009; Australia 2010 *; South Sudan 2011 onwards; Yemen 2012 onwards, Syria 2012 onwards; Egypt 2013 *; Turkey 2016; Bolivia 2019 *; Pakistan 2022 * ; Peru 2022 * [3].

As a UK or US ally, Australia has violated all circa 80 Indo-Pacific countries in the last 80 years variously through military presence (most countries), covert regime change (8), and hugely disproportionately high Australian contribution to climate change (all). Australians have been involved in successful, US-complicit covert regime change in Laos (1960), Indonesia (1965), Cambodia (1970),  Chile (1973), Australia (1975), Fiji (1987), Fiji (2000), and Australia (2010) with Apartheid Israel being also involved in the last 3 coups. Yet apart from border spats,  a remarkably stay-at-home,  peaceful and pro-peace China – presently the subject of false, primitive, racist, and hysterical US Alliance Sinophobia, threat  and warmongering – has conquered only 2 entities in the last millennium, contiguous Tibet (in the 13th century as the English were conquering Celtic Britain) and neighbouring  Xinjiang (in the 18th century as the English were conquering much of the world) [4].

The huge avoidable deaths from US Alliance-imposed deprivation of Occupied Iraqis (4 million) and Occupied Afghans (6 million) is evidence of gross US Alliance violation of Articles 55 and 56 of the Fourth Geneva Convention (the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War) that state unequivocally that an Occupier must provide its conquered Subjects with life-preserving food and medical requisites “to the fullest extent of the means available to it”. Australian  soldiers are alleged to have been involved in 39 unlawful  killings in Afghanistan whereas the politicians who sent them there are complicit in the passive mass murder of 6 million Afghans, a 6 million/39 = 154,000 times worse crime.

All war crimes should be properly investigated and all those responsible must  held to account, including politicians for grossly violating the Fourth Geneva Convention in passive mass murder  of millions of Iraqis and Afghans. Indeed these politicians should be arraigned for horrendous passive mass murder before any Australian or US Alliance soldiers are indicted for unlawful killings of individual Iraqis and Afghans. However while the politician war criminals remain free, Australian and world hero Julian Assange has been abusively imprisoned for a decade in London for truth telling about US Coalition war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. Silence is complicity, and failure to bear witness means being  an accessory after the fact. Please inform everyone you can.

Yours sincerely, Dr Gideon Polya, Melbourne, Australia.

END LETTER.

Comments and conclusions.

Nearly 30 years ago I became  aware of one of the biggest atrocities of WW2, the “forgotten” 1942-1945 WW2 Bengali Holocaust (the WW2 Indian Holocaust, the WW2 Bengal Famine) in which 6-7 million Indians were deliberately starved to death by the British with food-denying Australian complicity for strategic reasons in Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Odisha. My family had been decimated in the  WW2 Jewish Holocaust (5-6 million Jews killed by violence and imposed deprivation by Nazi Germany), and I was horrified that an atrocity of the same magnitude had occurred at the same time in British-ruled India but had been effectively “white-washed” by the British and Australians from British history and from general public perception.

I only learned  of this atrocity from the film ”Distant Thunder” by brilliant Bengali film-maker Satyajit Ray. The only mention of this huge crime in my huge personal library was in 3 words in a huge chronological German history entry for  1943: “Famine in Bengal”.  Indeed my dear late wife Zareena née Lateef (we were married from 1966 until her death in 2018) was of Bengali and Bihari origin and had introduced me to Indian culture, history and literature, but because of a British colonial education  and thence Australian secondary and tertiary education was completely unaware of the devastation of the land of her grandparents (they were all indentured labourers or “5 year slaves” from India in the sugar plantations of British-ruled Fiji). Fortunately the Dietrich Borchardt Library of La Trobe University in Melbourne had an excellent Indian collection (that extensively documented the WW2 Bengali Holocaust) and a huge British history collection (that unwittingly testified to 80 years of extraordinary and  near-comprehensive  lying by omission about the WW2 Bengal Holocaust by successive generations of British and Australian historiographers).

In 1998 I published the first edition of “Jane Austen and the Black Hole of British History. Colonial rapacity,  holocaust denial and the crisis in global sustainability”. In essence this eclectic and highly documented “J’accuse” argued that history ignored yields  history repeated  and that ignoring a looming climate crisis (as then perceived by scientists) would mean a repeat of Indian famine atrocities on a vastly greater and indeed global scale. By 2008 I published a revised and updated 2nd edition  because informed and educated people in general by now realized that the climate crisis from greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution was serious and worsening, although this was fervently denied by powerful fossil fuel corporations and Mainstream media climate denialists  (notably the US Murdoch media empire). Today due to powerful climate change denialism  and neoliberal “business as usual” GHG pollution is at a record level, and  increasing at a record rate, and a catastrophic plus 2 degrees Centigrade (plus 2C)  of global warming is now effectively unavoidable. This looming and now essentially inescapable disaster prompted a greatly expanded 3rd edition (Korsgaard Publishing, Germany, 2022).  In the absence of requisite action 10 billion people are set to perish in a worsening Climate Genocide en route to a sustainable population  of only about 1 billion in 2100 (see Gideon Polya, “Climate Crisis, Climate Genocide & Solutions”, Korsgaard Publishing, Germany, 2020).

Of course holocaust ignoring and genocide ignoring are far, far worse than repugnant  holocaust denial and genocide denial because the latter at least permit refutation and public debate.

The criminal US violations, subversions, invasions, regime changes, holocaust-ignoring  and genocide-ignoring I described in the Open Letter to Australian MPs re US Alliance war crimes  are likewise simply baldly ignored by US media and the US-beholden Western Mainstream media. The US and the US Alliance  adopt an unspoken and morally and intellectually bereft position that Truth is simply what they prefer it to be. Even deaths in gigantic atrocities such as the US-imposed Iraqi Holocaust and Afghan Holocaust (avoidable deaths from deprivation 4 million and 6 million, respectively) are resolutely ignored or minimized, and these US-imposed disasters are at best simply dismissed as well-intentioned US “mistakes”.

However since Israeli acquisition of nuclear weapons by the mid-1960s the US and its genocidal allies became increasingly Zionist-subverted and Zionist-perverted to the point of flagrant Orwellian lying in the interests of nuclear terrorist, and genocidally racist Apartheid Israel. Thus Australia is second only to the US as a supporter of Apartheid Israel, and nearly all US Alliance countries are  members of the all-European, 35-member and fervently Zionist  International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance  (IHRA). The IHRA Definition of Anti-Semitism is  anti-Jewish anti-Semitic and anti-Arab anti-Semitic (by falsely defaming anti-racist Jews, Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims critical of the horrendous crimes of nuclear terrorist Apartheid Israel), and holocaust-ignoring and genocide-ignoring by ignoring all WW2 holocausts other than the WW2 Jewish Holocaust and ignoring some 70 holocausts and genocides.

Zionist-subverted America and Zionist-subverted and US lackey Australia not only ignore the horrendous and deadly record of 85 attempted and 50 successful regime changes by serial war criminal America. By falsely referring to the horrific WW2 Jewish Holocaust (5-6 million deaths) as “The Holocaust” the Zionists, Zionist-perverted America, Zionist-subverted and US lackey Australia,  and the Zionist-perverted  US Alliance countries ignore the horrendous realities of the following WW2 holocausts  (deaths from violence and imposed deprivation in brackets): the WW2 Polish Holocaust (6 million deaths), WW2  European Holocaust (30 million Slav, Jewish and Roma deaths), WW2 Soviet Holocaust (27 million Soviet deaths), WW2 Chinese Holocaust (35-40 million deaths), and the WW2 Bengali Holocaust (WW2 Indian Holocaust, WW2 Bengal Famine; 6-7 million deaths).

The mendacious, racist and Zionist IHRA countries  falsely deny the actuality of the ongoing Palestinian Genocide, falsely deny the blatant reality of Israeli Apartheid, and falsely describe Apartheid Israel as a “democracy” (even though 73% of its now 50% majority Indigenous Palestinians are excluded from voting for the government ruling them). The century-long US- , UK- and Australia-backed Palestinian Genocide has been associated with  over 2 million Palestinians deaths from imposed deprivation and 100,000 violent Indigenous Palestinian deaths. Today 7.5 million Indigenous Palestinians represent  over 50% of the Subjects of Apartheid Israel (Jewish Israelis 47%). Of 15.5 million Indigenous Palestinians, 7 million are Exiled Palestinians (violently excluded from the land continuously inhabited by their forebears for millennia), 5.5 million are Occupied Palestinians (excluded under foreign military occupation from all human rights set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, with over 2 million highly abusively confined to the blockaded and bombed Gaza Concentration Camp), and 2 million are Israeli Palestinians (able to vote but subject to 60 Nazi-style, race-based, discriminatory laws).

The horrible reality is that Zionism – rejected by true Orthodox Judaism for theological and humanitarian  reasons –  is genocidal racism in awful theory and appalling practice. Zionism is Nazism without gas chambers but with high technology weapons and 90 nuclear weapons. Anti-racist Jewish American scholar Professor Bertell Ollman (NYU) has stated:Yet, the facts on the ground, when not obscured by one or another Zionist rationalization, show that the Zionists are the worst anti-Semites in the world today, oppressing a Semitic people as no nation has done since the Nazis”. Indeed careful research has generated a shocking and detailed list of 52 Zionist- and  Apartheid Israeli-Nazi Germany comparisons. The US, UK, Australia and all the 35 IHRA countries need de-Nazification. All those who support Apartheid Israel are supporting the crime of Apartheid and are thus utterly unfit for public life and public office in one-person-one-vote democracies like Australia.  In Australia’s world’s best compulsory and preferential  voting system decent, anti-racist Australians will vote 1 Green, put the fervently pro-Zionist  Coalition last, and put  Labor second last (the key merit of the present Labor Government is that it is not as bad as the unspeakable former Coalition Government, the Coalition being described by Australia’s top human rights lawyer as “ideologically opposed to human rights” ). Decent anti-racist Humanity will urge and apply Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against neo-Nazi Apartheid Israel and all its supporters.

Foreign attempted overthrow or actual overthrow of the government of another country is among the worst of crimes. The perpetrators should be identified,  investigated by Interpol, and at the very least simply publicly identified. However as illustrated by this Open Letter experiment, the US and US lackey Australia utterly ignore the numerous such  crimes in which they have been involved. Silence is complicity, and Mainstream Western politicians and media are accessories after the fact of these vile, deadly and racist crimes.
