Today, Comrade Sitaram Yechury, General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), died of lung disease at the age of 72 in AIIMS, Delhi! Comrade Sitaram Yechury was intelligent since his student days! He did BA and MA in Economics from JNU. He has also achieved success in merit! And has also played a leadership role in the student movement of the 70s-80s! He was associated with the Students Federation, the student union of the Marxist Communist Party, from the very beginning! And he was a leader of the JNU students. As a leader, he was elected twice as the President of JNU Students Union! This means that Sitaram Yechury gave equal importance to his studies along with being a student leader. He continuously did graduation and post graduation in a difficult subject like economics. I have passed the examinations with merit! The decade of 70-80 was the decade of student movement! Due to this, despite passing in merit, Sitaram left his personal career and started working for the student union of the party. And hence he was elected President of the Student Federation twice.
Born in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh but coming to JNU to study, he could speak Hindi very well! He was fluent in English, but in a country like India, any activist working in the political field needed to know English. And having knowledge of Hindi makes work very easy! That is why Sitaram Yechury was able to do everything from TV interviews to writing articles in newspapers and magazines in English and Hindi! And the biggest quality was that he was not boring like the intellectuals. Or he was not arrogant! In true sense, he was an exceptional communist leader who was very humble like a leader of the proletariat and talked to everyone on an equal footing! Otherwise, most of the general secretaries of the Marxist Communist Party have been rude, dull and arrogant! In perspective, Sitaram Yechury was very humble and friendly!
From my personal experiences, I saw that the Delhi office of Rashtra Seva Dal was in the premises of Vithalbhai Patel House, which is a complex of many buildings. There is a building in it in which the office of Rashtra Seva Dal was located and Sitaram Yechury’s residence was also in the same building. So we People used to meet each other often! And the most important thing was that both of us were very worried about the current communalism since the 80s! And when he expressed concern about the growing threat of RSS! And said that in comparison to this, our leftists There is no organization of people! Then I said that “This board of Rashtra Seva Dal which you are seeing! This is an organization started in Maharashtra as a synonym for the Sangh! Madhu Limaye, Madhu Dandavate, Mrinal are among the members of this organization. People of my age like Gore, Pramila Dandavate, Barrister Nath Pai and I, Medha Patkar and Smita Patil have been involved in this organisation since childhood and it is because of this that we are able to do this work today!” So I found the first leader among the leftists who understood the importance of Rashtriya Seva Dal! And he said that this organization can really become a synonym for the Sangh! And after he became the General Secretary and I also became the President of Rashtriya Seva Dal, he I had duly organised a meeting with some colleagues in AK Gopalan Bhavan! And when I told them about Rashtra Seva Dal, the most positive response came only from Sitaram Yechury! But after two years, I was removed from the post of Seva Dal President. After his removal, that process came to a halt! Otherwise Sitaram Yechury had said that “We will call a meeting of the leaders of all the secular parties of India and try to carry out the work of Rashtriya Seva Dal as a synonym of the Sangh ” But everything remained half-finished!
Sitaram Yechury has also written two books on the present communal problem of India! And all the political parties and organizations with secular ideology should form a united front against the BJP, and he has tried his best to take this process forward. ! The result of which is the formation of a coalition named INDIA! Because Congress is a big party, Rahul Gandhi’s name comes up the most! But according to me, Sitaram Yechury has been working continuously on this issue long before Rahul Gandhi came on it. He was! Therefore, in the present times when sensible people like Sitaram Yechury are needed the most! At such a time, his death as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) is not only harmful for the party! But it is most harmful for the political unity against the BJP. We have lost a very important leader among those who worked wholeheartedly for the cause! I offer my revolutionary salute to his memory!
