Looking Up

Pine Tree

I realized recently
That
If you look up at a pine tree
From a certain angle
With both of your feet
Planted deep in its shadow
Its branches become never-ending.
Standing there like that, you can see
How they reach out like wings
Of a pinwheel
Or the arms of a person receiving a hug.
These arms are
Forever pushing
Layering one on top of the other
Upwards toward a multitude of realities
Upward toward eternity
Upward bravely into
The unknown.
Every day now, I strive to look at my whole life
From the same perspective
That I looked up at that
Tree.
