Woman, Three Children Among Victims of Israeli Attack on Al-Mawasi tent
Five Palestinians were killed in an overnight attack on a tent sheltering displaced people in the so-called “humanitarian zone” of al-Mawasi in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis.
The victims included a woman and her three children, according to local sources.
The Israeli military gave no warning for the attack on al-Mawasi which has been heavily targeted in recent months.
Hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians have taken shelter in al-Mawasi who had followed Israel’s forced evacuation orders soon after the assault broke out in October 2023.
Al-Mawasi witnessed several deadly Israeli attacks, including a devastating attack on July 13, when Israeli air strikes on displaced Palestinians killed at least 88 and wounded 289 others, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
MSF says world ‘failed’ people of Gaza, ceasefire ‘relief’ coming too late
Doctors Without Borders, known by its French initials MSF, says the ceasefire deal is a “relief” but it comes too late.
“For more than 15 months, hospital rooms have been filled with patients with severed limbs and other life-altering trauma, caused by strikes, and distressed people searching for the bodies of their family members,” the organisation said in a statement.
MSF, which said eight of its workers had been killed since the start of the war, described humanitarian needs in the besieged and bombarded territory as having reached “catastrophic levels”.
“The Israeli government, Hamas, and world leaders have tragically failed the people of Gaza, by not agreeing and imposing a sustained ceasefire sooner. The relief that this ceasefire brings is far from enough for people to rebuild their lives, reclaim their dignity and to mourn for those killed and all that’s been lost,” the statement added.
$ 10 Billion needed to rebuild Gaza’s health system: WHO
The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that rebuilding Gaza’s shattered health system will require at least $10 billion over the next five to seven years. In a statement, the WHO urged its member states, international donors, and the private sector to join forces to address both the immediate health crises and the long-term reconstruction of Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure.
The WHO stressed the need for flexible, sustained funding to drive rapid and effective responses to the ongoing crisis. During the Genocide, Israel has killed over 1068 health workers, arrested 33, and tortured to death three in prison, according to Gaza’s Government Media Office.
It also revealed that Israeli attacks rendered 34 hospitals out of service, in addition to other 80 health centers. About 162 health institutions and 136 ambulances were targeted.
