For Indigenous Australians and anti-racist non-Indigenous Australians 26 January is Invasion Day marking the British invasion of Australia on 26 January 1788 and the commencement of the horrific Australian Aboriginal Genocide. However for thoughtless and racist Mainstream Australians 26 January is Australia Day that celebrates the creation of European Australia. Gaza Genocide-complicit, US lackey and Zionist-perverted Mainstream Australia is committed to genocidal racism and egregious lying.
Just imagine the global outcry if presently neo-Nazi and fervently anti-Arab anti-Semitic Germany decided to have the most important German National Day on the date of the horrific Kristallnacht, the Nazi pogrom against German Jews throughout Nazi Germany on 9–10 November 1938 [1] that kicked off the subsequent 1939-1945 Nazi mass murder of 5-6 million European Jews [2-4]. Actually, this scenario is not at all fanciful with the huge increase in popular support for the neo-Nazi extreme right in Germany and Austria that verges on taking government throughout German-speaking Central Europe [5, 6]. Indeed neo-Nazi Germany already is fervently pro-Apartheid Israel and hence pro-Apartheid [7], persecutes supporters of Palestinian human rights and belongs to the all-European International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) that is anti-Jewish anti-Semitic and anti-Arab anti-Semitic (by falsely defaming anti-racist Jews, Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims opposed to the genocidal crimes of Zionazi-ruled Apartheid Israel), is holocaust denying (by ignoring all WW2 holocausts other than the WW2 Jewish Holocaust) and has been condemned by over 40 anti-racist Jewish organizations [8-11].
Invasion Day (26 January) in Australia acknowledges the over 2 century Indigenous Australian Genocide (Aboriginal Genocide) in which 2 million First Nations people died from violence (0.1 million) and from dispossession, deadly deprivation and introduced disease (the remainder). This was not just an Aboriginal Genocide but also a Aboriginal Ethnocide that is one of the worst in human history – of 350-700 unique Indigenous languages and dialects in 1788 only about 120 survive today with all but 25 severely endangered [12]. This racist obscenity crucially involved the forced removal of about 0.1 million Aboriginal children (the Stolen Generations) from their mothers, a process that continues today at a record high rate notwithstanding Labor PM Kevin Rudd’s 2010 “Sorry” for the Stolen Generations. The Aboriginal Ethnocide continues through forced removal of Indigenous children from their mothers and families, conservative Australian opposition to bilingual education, and impoverished circumstances of the 0.3% surviving Indigenous population of Australia that is far worse off than non-Indigenous Australians in terms of health, wealth, health care access, housing, education, employment and life expectancy (a circa 9 year gap) [12-14].
Conservative politicians have been offensive in their comments on the well-documented and shocking history of the genocidal British invasion of Australia that historian Professor Geoffrey Blainey and thence former Coalition PM John Howard described as the “black arm band” view of history” [15]. Subsequent Coalition PM Tony Abbott offensively described pre-Invasion Sydney as “Just bush” [16]. Recently in a 2025 Australia Day (Invasion Day) address Coalition Deputy Opposition leader Sussan Ley compared the arrival of the First Fleet to Australia in 1788 to Elon Musk’s SpaceX spaceship seeking to reach and colonize a lifeless Mars [17]. After the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945 some Germans claimed in relation to Nazi atrocities that “they didn’t know”. Today Australian access to expertly revealed details of historical realities such as the Australian Aboriginal Genocide ( 2 million deaths from violence, deprivation and disease)[12] and the Palestinian Genocide (2.5 million deaths from violence and the remainder from imposed deprivation)[29] is only a few mouse clicks away. However Mainstream Australian journalist, editor, politician, academic and commentariat presstitutes resolutely look the other way.
I joined 25,000 others in the huge Invasion Day Rally in Melbourne on 26 January 2026 involving First Nations people and supported by thousands of people also supporting human rights for the sorely oppressed Palestinians [30]. Indigenous speakers demanded truth telling about the Aboriginal Genocide ( 2 million killed) [12]. I had a huge and highly visible double-sided placard reading “WORLD: STOP PALESTINIAN GENOCIDE, ZIONISM” and on the other side: “BOYCOTT APARTHEID ISRAEL, LABOR, LIBS” (the Libs being the Liberals, the major partner in the far-Right Coalition that is presently in Opposition). An Indigenous man asked me what it meant, and I replied “The Zionists killed Palestinians and stole their land, just as the British killed Indigenous Australians and stole their land”. The 15 million Indigenous Palestinians include 7 million Exiled Palestinians (excluded from the land continuously inhabited by their forebears for 4 millennia), 5.6 million pre-war and possibly now only 5 million Occupied Palestinians (brutally Occupied for 57 years by the Zionazi Jewish Israelis and excluded from all human rights set out by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights) and 2.1 million Israeli Palestinians (able to vote for the government ruling them albeit as Third Class citizens under 65 race-based, Nazi-style discriminatory laws) [18]. In short, the genocidally racist Zionazis want all the Land of Palestine (plus other land between the Euphrates and the Nile) but not the Indigenous inhabitants.
The impoverishment of the Occupied Palestinians is revealed by the pre-war per capita GDP of $55,000 (Apartheid Israelis), $3,500 (Occupied Palestinians) and $1,000 (Gazans) [31, 32]. In stark contrast the social service payment for an eligible unemployed partnered Indigenous or non-Indigenous Australian with no children is A$712 ($US450) per fortnight or US$11,700 per year) [33]. The pre-war life expectancy gap between Occupied Palestinians and Israelis was about 10 years but this has greatly decreased because the life expectancy of Gazans has almost halved from 74.5 years to 40 years in the first year of the Gaza Massacre [33]. The Indigenous Australian life expectancy is about 74 years [35], similar to that in Gaza before the present Gaza Genocide.
Indigenous Australians and Indigenous Palestinians make common cause over the Aboriginal Genocide and the Palestinian Genocide that are both associated with settler-colonialist invasion, devastation, dispossession, ethnic cleansing and deadly deprivation of the survivors. Thus the large Sunday Rallies for Gaza (held in Melbourne every Sunday since 7 October 2023 from 12 noon, Victorian State Library) are always associated with Aboriginal speakers and Aboriginal flags. However the Australian Mainstream objects to dispossessed and impoverished Indigenous Australians supposedly being given “special treatment” (absurdly asserting that such special treatment is “racism” discriminating against all other Australians). Indeed the Labor Government insisted on a Referendum in 2023 for (1) constitutional Recognition of First Nations people and (2) a constitutionally enshrined Voice for Indigenous Australians. The cowardly, racist and incompetent Labor Government lumped the 2 propositions together knowing that Australians overwhelmingly supported (1) and overwhelmingly opposed (2) on the basis of asserted “special treatment”. The Referendum was lost with 60% voting No and 40% Yes. I still have a colourful Yes placard firmly planted in my front yard.
Faced with this massive Referendum defeat, cowardly Labor has sought to pamper primitive and puerile populism. Already a key word in the Australian National Anthem “Advance Australia Fair” (composed in the 19th century in the midst of the Aboriginal Genocide and when “fair” meant “white”) had been changed from “We are young and free” to “We are one and free”. The racist, Zionist-subverted, US lackey, traitorous, pro-Apartheid Israel and hence pro-Apartheid Labor Government and Coalition Opposition, fervently supported by Zionists and the utterly reprehensible and largely US-owned Mainstream media, have weaponized “antisemitism” to falsely imply that those protesting the Gaza Genocide are promoting “antisemitism” , causing “fear” among Jewish Australians and damaging “social cohesion”. After attending numerous pro-Palestinian human rights rallies with my huge 2-sided placard I have been indignantly engaged by some conservative Mainstream Australians who say “We don’t need that sort of thing from overseas” in “We are oneand free”, look-the-other-way Australia. Indeed travelling home after the Invasion Day Rally on 26 January this year I was sitting with my placard, Free Palestine shirt and black on white Palestinian kaffiyeh (scarf) near the train carriage exit and opposite a young couple. An elderly European man on a walker exiting the carriage accosted me: “ I hope you like living in our wonderful country” to which I replied “Of course”. The man then responded as he exited the train: “Then why are you protesting with that sign?” As he left I responded silently with hands palm upwards, and told the amused young couple: “Free speech is a wonderful thing” (they wished me a nice day when they exited at their station – thank goodness that young people get it).
The Western Mainstream media, including the Australian Mainstream media, have an appallingly consistent record of ignoring deaths in war due to imposed deprivation. Thus according to the Brown University Cost of War project deaths from violence and imposed deprivation total 4.7 million for the Iraq plus Afghan wars [36] and my estimate is 9.5 million [37-45]. However Western Mainstream media report that deaths in these wars total about 0.6 million [46-49], with the Australian ABC reporting on the occasion of the US withdrawal from Iraq (2011): “The withdrawal ends a war that left tens of thousands of Iraqis and nearly 4,500 American soldiers dead” [47] .
Similarly the Western Mainstream presently report about 45,000 deaths in the Gaza Massacre and an expert upward revision to 64,260 violent deaths, but resolutely ignore expert estimations reported in the leading medical journal The Lancet of about 0.5 million non-violent deaths so far from imposed deprivation [29, 44, 50-55]. According to epidemiological experts in The Lancet, in the first 9 months of the massacre of Semitic Indigenous Palestinians by mostly non-Semitic Jewish Israelis in Gaza violent deaths totalled 64,260 [50] and non-violent deaths from deprivation were 4 times that (257,040) for a total of 321,300 deaths [29, 44, 50- 55]. By 20 January 2025 after 15.5 months of killing Gazan deaths from violence and imposed deprivation totalled 553,350. In the impoverished Global South under-5 infant deaths are about 70% of avoidable deaths from deprivation [56] and it is estimated that the 553,350 Gaza dead as of 20 January 2025 (24% of the 2.3 million pre-war Gaza population) including 393,000 children, 51,000 women and 113,000 men [55].
Journalists working for commercial media have to toe the line set by the owners or get sacked. Thus famed Australian novelist Peter Carey: “I keep on thinking about the role of the media generally in this and how the media is always so continually hysterical about people lying and not telling the truth. And if I really think there’s a big problem in our society today, it’s that the media is not telling the truth to people and they know what it is. If you really want to know what’s happening [in] the world, you go out and get drunk with journalists and they will tell you what isn’t in the papers” [57, 58]. Lying comes in 2 repugnant forms, lying by commission and lying by omission. Lying by omission is far, far worse than lying by commission because the latter at least permits public refutation and public debate [59]. However Australian journalists working for the taxpayer-funded ABC (Australia’s equivalent of the UK BBC) have a clear obligation to report truthfully to Australians. However ABC management has ordered that journalists reporting the horrific Palestinian Genocide by Apartheid Israel must not use the words “genocide” and “apartheid” [60, 61]. The UK BBC, the New York Times (“all the news that’s fit to print”) and other US Government -beholden Western Mainstream media similarly censor their reporters [62-65].
While numerous anti-racist Jewish intellectuals such as myself are resolutely critical of the ongoing Palestinian Genocide, Western Mainstream Media (including the Mainstream media of Zionist-subverted and US lackey Australia) variously censor or white-wash the nuclear terrorist, genocidally racist, and grossly human rights-abusing conduct of Apartheid Israel. A part explanation for this huge moral discrepancy is that the American 60% of the world’s 30 biggest media companies have a disproportionately high Jewish Board membership. Jews and females represent 2% and 51%, respectively, of the US population but average 33% and 19%, respectively, of Board members of the top 18 US media companies [66].
This outrageous censorship and Orwellian Mainstream lying in the interests of genocidally racist Apartheid Israel and its racist Zionist and pro-Zionist supporters has subverted and perverted Western democracies including Australia. The Centre-Right Australian Labor Government and the Far-Right Liberal-National Party Coalition Opposition fervently support Apartheid Israel and hence the utterly vile crime of Apartheid. Those supporting the neo-Nazi crime of Apartheid are unfit for decent company, public life and public office. Australia has 227 Federal MPs but by mid-2024 of these only 19 (15 Greens, and the Independents Senator Lidia Thorpe, Senator Fatima Payman Dr Helen Haines and Andrew Wilkie) consistently demanded an immediate and permanent ceasefire and an end to the illegal Occupation but this was vehemently opposed in the Federal Parliament by the 208 other MPs [67-74]. Under pressure of losing the Arab and Muslim vote in the 2025 elections after over a year of supporting Zionazi Apartheid Israel and its horrific Gaza Massacre the Labor Government finally in late 2024 allowed its UNGA representative to vote Yes for an immediate and permanent Ceasefire and an end to the Occupation [75]. However the Opposition Leader condemned this: “I think the prime minister stands condemned … it’s for votes. He sold the Jewish community out for ‘green’ votes. They have been prepared to sacrifice the wellbeing of the Jewish community here in Australia to do so” [76]. Actually, it is the Opposition leader who stands condemned for supporting the illegal Israeli Occupation and refusing to act on ICC-issued arrest warrants for Jewish Israeli war criminals Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant [77].
Indeed the Labor Government, the Coalition Opposition and the disgusting Mainstream media (notably the US-owned Murdoch media that has 70% of Australia’s daily newspaper readership) have disgustingly and fervently supported Apartheid Israel in its Gaza Massacre and weaponized the WW2 Jewish Holocaust and asserted “antisemitism” (by falsely applying the utterly false Definition of Antisemitism espoused by the all-European, anti-Arab anti-Semitic, anti-Jewish anti-Semitic and holocaust denying International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) and which has been rejected by over 40 anti-racist Jewish organizations [8-11]). I have been researching and writing about horrific deaths from imposed deprivation, holocausts and genocides (including the Palestinian Genocide) for 30 years as reported in 9 huge books [40, 56, 79-82] and in about 1,000 mostly lengthy and exhaustively referenced articles (overwhelmingly published outside Australia) [83-87]. However for the last dozen years I have been largely rendered invisible to Mainstream Australia due to false Zionist defamation and unknown pro-Zionist gate-keepers. Nevertheless I stubbornly write carefully researched and composed Letters addressed to the editors of major Australian Mainstream media (a) to educate them and (b) in the hope of sparking their consciences over genocidal US, US Alliance and Apartheid Israel war crimes on the basis that Silence is Complicity. To my knowledge all but 1 of my Letters in the period 31 December 2024-29 January 2025 have been rejected but I have taken to recording them, notably in a website that essentially is a record of what Australian Mainstream media don’t want Australians to see, hear or think about [83].
Set out below are a series of Letters , all of which I individually addressed to the editors of 9 major Australian Mainstream media from 31 December 2024 onwards, setting out horrific aspects of the Gaza Genocide. 29 January 2025 (just sent). Comparing the death rate in the Gaza Concentration Camp (428,000 killed per year) to that in Auschwitz (367,000 killed per year). My wider Jewish Hungarian family was decimated in the WW2 Jewish Holocaust in Nazi-occupied Hungary. I am inescapably bound by its key moral messages of “zero tolerance for lying”, “zero tolerance for racism”, “bear witness” and “never again to anyone”. However these moral imperatives are grossly violated by the US, the US Alliance and Western Mainstream media in their support for the ongoing Jewish Israeli-imposed Gaza Genocide. Expert epidemiological reports in the leading medical journal The Lancet indicate 553,000 Gaza deaths from violence and imposed deprivation by 20 January 2025 in the 360 square kilometre Gaza Concentration Camp (428,000 killed per year) but this is resolutely ignored by holocaust-ignoring Western Mainstream media who also ignore the tens of millions of Indigenous deaths from imposed deprivation in Australia-backed post-WW2 US wars. At least 1,100,000 inmates were killed over 3 years by the Nazis in the 40 square kilometre Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp complex (367,000 killed per year) that was liberated by the Red Army 80 years ago on 27 January 1945. 28 January 2025. Australian Mainstream ignores the US- and US Alliance-imposed Korean, Vietnamese, Iraqi, Afghan and Palestinian Genocides. The Palestinians have suffered 3 mass expulsion atrocities by Zionist invaders: the 1948 Nakba or Catastrophe (800,000 or 60 % of the Palestinians expelled, 530 villages emptied), the 1967 Naksa or Setback (400,000 expelled by a nuclear-armed Apartheid Israel) and the 2023-2025 Gaza Genocide (most of the pre-war population of 2.3 million Palestinians forced out of their homes and Gaza largely destroyed). Now Trump describes Gaza as a “demolition site”, has renewed 2,000-pound bomb shipments to Israel, extolls Jewish Israeli Gaza redevelopment possibilities, and now proposes relocation of 1.5 million surviving Gazans to Jordan and Egypt (ethnic cleansing): “You’re talking about one and a half million people, and we will just remove this issue altogether”. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz by the Soviet Union’s Red Army, decent, sane, anti-genocide Australians say quit the US Alliance that has made Australia complicit in the Korean, Vietnamese, Iraqi, Afghan and Palestinian Genocides, has stationed 3,000 US military and nuclear-armed bombers and warships in Australia, has made Australia a prime nuclear target, and has diverted $400 billion from keeping sick Australians alive to supporting US and UK nuclear terrorism. 27 January 2025. Australian Mainstream ignores false defamation and intimidation of anti-racist Jews that is real, damaging and utterly repugnant anti-Jewish anti-Semitism. Sarah Schwartz, like me, is an anti-racist Jewish Australian. 24 January 2025. Australian Mainstream ignores the Jewish Israeli decimation of Gaza hospitals and the killing of over 1,000 Gaza healthcare professionals. It is 80 years since the killing of my grandfather, Jeno Polya, by the Nazis weeks before the liberation of Budapest by the Soviet Red Army (February, 1945). My grandfather was famous for the Billroth-Polya gastrectomy that saved thousands of stomach ulcer sufferers world-wide before Australian Nobel Laureates Barry Marshall and Robin Warren discovered its bacterial origin and anti-bacterial cure in the 1980s. Just before WW2 he rejected American offers and stayed in Budapest, confident in his saving of tens of thousands of Hungarian lives in war and peace. He almost made it. 22 January 2025. Australian Mainstream ignores even world-famous anti-racist Jews and slavishly parrots advice from Gaza Genocide-backing Zionists and Apartheid Israeli Zionazis. Re Australia’s “antisemitism summit”: The Labor Government and Coalition Opposition won’t take advice from eminent anti-racist Jewish Australians e.g. the former Governor-General Sir Isaac Isaacs (“The honour of Jews throughout the world demands the renunciation of political Zionism”), world-famous Professors Peter Singer and Dennis Altman and 33 other eminent anti-racist Jewish Australians (who denounced and renounced the Jewish Israeli “Law of Return” that welcomes all non-Semitic Ashkenazi Jews (most Jews) to Palestine but rejects the Semitic Indigenous Palestinians) (Google “Jews Against Racist Zionism”), and indeed from true Orthodox Jews and the anti-racist Jewish Council of Australia (a coalition of Jewish academics, lawyers, writers and antisemitism experts and founded to represent non-Zionist Australian Jews and oppose antisemitism and racism). Australian media have also reported the killing of 4 non-combatant Australians by the IDF. Palestinian Australians of my acquaintance have tragically lost family members in Gaza.
