Gaza (Quds News Network)- At least 29 Palestinians have been killed and more than 100 wounded in Israeli air attacks on two schools housing displaced people in the Tuffah neighbourhood of Gaza City on Thursday.

Gaza’s Government Media Office said in a statement that 29 people – including 18 children, women and elders – were killed and more than 100 were injured when Israeli air attacks hit the Dar al-Arqam School-turned-shelter. The school was hit with at least four missiles, a Civil Defence spokesperson said.

At least four others were killed in an Israeli attack on the Fahd School in the same area of Gaza City, which was also sheltering displaced families, local sources reported.

The Israeli military said it struck a command centre in Gaza City, claiming it had been used by Hamas fighters to plan and execute attacks against Israel.

Journalists described the site of the bombing at Dar al-Arqam School as “horrific”.

“Some of the footage is too graphic to show – horrific and deeply disturbing. Many were killed on the spot while others succumbed to their injuries while being transported in ambulances or civilian vehicles to al-Ahli Hospital,” Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud said.

Israeli airstrikes have killed over 1000 Palestinians and injured hundreds more after announcing the resumption of its genocide war in Gaza on March 18. The Israeli attacks marked the collapse of a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal that had begun on January 19, 2025.

The first phase ended on March 1, 2025, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused to proceed with the second phase, saying Israel aims to apply maximum pressure on Hamas to secure the release of Israeli captives.

Netanyahu, wanted by the International Criminal Court, sought to free more Israeli captives without fulfilling Israel’s commitments, including ending the war and withdrawing from Gaza. Hamas insisted on implementing the full agreement.
