This week the English-speaking world is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of arguably the greatest Victorian era English novelist Charles Dickens (born 7 February 1812, died 9 June 1870).
Charles Dickens' works include “Sketches by Boz”, “The Old Curiosity Shop”, “Oliver Twist”, “Nicholas Nickleby”, “Barnaby Rudge”, “A Christmas Carol”, “Martin Chuzzlewit”, “A Tale of Two Cities”, “David Copperfield”, “Great Expectations”, “Bleak House”, “Little Dorrit”, “Hard Times”, “Our Mutual Friend” and “The Pickwick Papers”.
However ignored in the celebrations will be the reality that Charles Dickens, like many of his English and British contemporaries, was a genocidal racist. Thus Charles Dickens in a letter to Emile de la Rue on 23 October 1857 about the so-called Indian Mutiny of 1857 : “I wish I were Commander in Chief over there [ India ]! I would address that Oriental character which must be powerfully spoken to, in something like the following placard, which should be vigorously translated into all native dialects, “I, The Inimitable, holding this office of mine, and firmly believing that I hold it by the permission of Heaven and not by the appointment of Satan, have the honor to inform you Hindoo gentry that it is my intention, with all possible avoidance of unnecessary cruelty and with all merciful swiftness of execution, to exterminate the Race from the face of the earth, which disfigured the earth with the late abominable atrocities [2,000 British killed in the 1857 Indian War of Independence aka the 1857 Indian Mutiny] (see Grace Moore (2004), “Dickens and the Empire. Discourses of class, race, and colonialism in the works of Charles Dickens” (Ashgate Publishing, Aldershot , UK ): http://www.amazon.com/Dickens-Empire-Discourses-Colonialism-Nineteenth/dp/glanceands=books/0754634124 ).
Charles Dickens was not alone and the British Establishment acted with extraordinary brutality. Indian historian Amaresh Misra claims in his 2 volume work “War of Civilizations: India AD 1857” that the British killed 10 million Indians in reprisals for the 2,000 British killed in the 1857 rebellion (the so-called Indian Mutiny). Amaresh Misra : “It was a holocaust, one where millions disappeared. It was a necessary holocaust in the British view because they thought the only way to win was to destroy entire populations in towns and villages. It was simple and brutal. Indians who stood in their way were killed. But its scale has been kept a secret" (Randeep Ramesh, “ India 's secret history: “a holocaust, one where millions disappeared…” Author says British reprisals involved the killing of 10 million Indians spread over 10 years”, Guardian, 24 August 2007: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/aug/24/india.randeepramesh ) . However British writers in a process of continuing , holocaust denial put the number of Indians killed at about 100,000.
The British-imposed Indian Holocaust was not confined to the decade after the 1857 Indian rebellion. It is estimated that avoidable deaths from deprivation under 2 centuries of British rule have totaled 1.8 billion with this carnage terminating in the 1942-1945 Bengali Holocaust in which the British with Australian complicity deliberately starved 6-7 million Indian to death (see my book “Jane Australian and the Black Hole of British History”: http://janeaustenand.blogspot.com.au/ ) and Partition in 1947 in which 1 million Indians died and 18 million fled mass murder as refugees (see my book “Body Count. Global avoidable mortality since 1950”: http://globalbodycount.blogspot.com.au/ ).
Yet the 1757-1947 Indian Holocaust and the 1942-1945 Bengali Holocaust have been whitewashed from British history – thus, for example, there is absolutely no mention of these enormous atrocities in recent Anglo histories such as “The Story of India” by Michael Wood (BBC, 2007), “The Britannica Guide to India” (Robinson, 2009), “A History of the English-speaking Peoples Since 1900” by Andrew Roberts (Harper, 2006), “A History of Britain” by Simon Schama ( BBC, 2002), “A Short History of the World” by Geoffrey Blainey (Viking, 2000), “A Very Short History of the World” by Geoffrey Blainey (Viking 2004) and “A Short History of the 20th Century” by Geoffrey Blainey ( Penguin, 2005).
One and a half centuries after the post-1857 Indian Rebellion Indian Holocaust and 70 years after the WW2 Bengali Holocaust the Anglo holocaust commission, holocaust denial, genocide commission and genocide denial is being played out in the US Alliance War on Muslims, Asians and Africans that has been associated with Muslim violent deaths and non-violent avoidable deaths from war-imposed deprivation totalling 12 million since 1990, the breakdown being about 0.2 million (Palestine since 1990), 4.6 million (Iraq, 1990-2012), 2.2 million (Somalia, 1992-2012), 5.0 million (Afghanistan, 2001-2012) and 50,000 (Libya, 2011-2012).
The Awful Truth of the Anglo-American-perpetrated and Anglo-American-ignored Muslim Holocaust and Muslim Genocide (see: http://sites.google.com/site/muslimholocaustmuslimgenocide/ ) is summarized below.
Palestinian Holocaust, Palestinian Genocide : for Palestinians as a whole, 0.1 million violent deaths and 1.9 million war- and occupation-related avoidable deaths from deprivation,1936-2011; 0.75 million under-5 infant deaths (1950-2012). For Occupied Palestinians, 0.3 million post-invasion violent and non-violent excess deaths, 1967-2011; 0.2 million post-invasion under-5 infant deaths, 1967-2011 (75% avoidable and due to US Alliance-backed Apartheid Israel war crimes in gross violation of the Geneva Convention and the UN Genocide Convention) 7 million refugees (see “Palestinian Genocide” : http://sites.google.com/site/palestiniangenocide/ ).
Afghan Holocaust, Afghan Genocide : as of October 2011, 5.6 million war-related deaths, 2001-2011; 1.4 million post-invasion violent deaths; 4.2 million non-violent excess deaths from deprivation; 2.9 million post-invasion under-5 infant deaths (90% avoidable and due to US Alliance war crimes in gross violation of the Geneva Convention and the UN Genocide Convention), 3-4 million refugees plus 2.5 million NW Pakistan Pashtun refugees (see “Afghan Holocaust, Afghan Genocide”: http://sites.google.com/site/afghanholocaustafghangenocide/ ).
Iraqi Holocaust, Iraqi Genocide : for the period 2003- 2011, 2.7 million post-invasion war-related deaths, 1.5 million violent deaths, 1.2 million non-violent excess deaths from war-imposed deprivation, 0.8 million post-invasion under-5 infant deaths, 5-6 million refugees; for the period 1990-2003, 0.2 million violent deaths, 1.7 million non-violent excess deaths from war-imposed deprivation, 1.2 million under-5 infant deaths; for the period 1990-2011, 4.6 million war-related deaths, 1.7 million violent deaths, 2.9 million deaths from war-imposed deprivation, 2.0 million under-5 infant deaths (90% avoidable and due to US Alliance war crimes in gross violation of the Geneva Convention and the UN Genocide Convention) (see Iraqi Holocaust, Iraqi Genocide”: http://sites.google.com/site/iraqiholocaustiraqigenocide/ ).
Somali Holocaust, Somali Genocide: in the period 1992-2011 (this successively involving US, Ethiopian and most recently Kenyan invasion), 0.4 million violent deaths, 1.8 million avoidable deaths from war-imposed deprivation, 1.3 million under-5 year old infant deaths ( 90% avoidable and due to US Alliance war crimes in gross violation of the Geneva Convention and the UN Genocide Convention), and 2.0 million refugees.
Libyan Holocaust, Libyan Genocide from 2011 onwards: before the France-UK-US (FUKUS) Coalition invasion the under-5 infant mortality was only 19 per 1,000 births in Libya as compared to 8 in the US; the FUKUS Coalition has killed up to 50,000 Libyans and wounded 50,000 already; the FUKUS-backed rebels are ethnically cleansing "Black Libyans"; Tawerga, formerly home to 10,000 mainly Black Libyans has been destroyed and completely ethnically cleansed; 1 million Black sub-Saharan refugees have fled; refugees total about 1.1 million; the Libyan Holocaust and Libyan Genocide has just begun.
Global Avoidable Mortality Holocaust : the above atrocities are dwarfed by the 1950-2005 excess deaths in the mostly post-colonial Muslim World that totalled 0.6 billion (see my book "Body Count. Global voidable mortality since 1950" , G.M. Polya, Melbourne , 2007, and "Global avoidable mortality": http://globalavoidablemortality.blogspot.com/ ).
Climate Holocaust, Climate Genocide : man-made global warming increasingly impacts the current 18 million annual avoidable deaths from deprivation and deprivation-exacerbated disease; estimates from top UK climate scientists Dr James Lovelock and Professor Kevin Anderson point to 10 billion avoidable deaths this century due to unaddressed global warming, this including 6 billion infants, 3 billion Muslims in a near-terminal, 21st century Muslim Holocaust , 2 billion Indians, 1.3 billion non-Arab Africans, 0.5 billion Bengalis, 0.3 billion Pakistanis and 0.3 billion Bangladeshis) (see “Climate Genocide”: http://sites.google.com/site/climategenocide/ ).
Yet the dimensions of these current atrocities are remorselessly kept from the public by holocaust-denying Mainstream media. Thus, by way of example, a search of the entire Australian ABC (the taxpayer-funded Australian Broadcasting Corporation that is the Australian equivalent of the UK BBC) for the above holocaust and genocide terms yields zero (0) results and the ABC in reporting final US withdrawal from Iraq in 2011 reported that only “tens of thousands” of Iraqis had died in the war (for a detailed compilation of censorship, lying by omission and lying by commission of the ABC see “ABC Censorship”: https://sites.google.com/site/abccensorship/ ).
Conclusions.
The contemporary Anglo-American Mainstream media, politician and academic holocaust commission and holocaust denial is summarized neatly in the obscene corporatist phrase “going forward” – thus the racist Zionist-backed US Alliance ignores the horrendous casualties of the above atrocities and is now doing its best to do the same to Syria (population 22 million) and to Iran (population 74 million), going forward.
Decent people cannot walk by on the other side. Peace is the only way but silence kills and silence is complicity. Decent people must (a) inform everyone they can about Anglo atrocities and (b) as far as is practicable apply and urge sanctions and boycotts against all people, politicians, parties, countries and corporations complicit in the US Alliance War on Muslims, Arabs, Asians and Africans.
Racist, genocidal Apartheid Israel and US Alliance countries should be excluded from the London Olympics and indeed there should be a world-wide boycott of the London Olympic Games while racist, genocidal Britain is still butchering Afghans on the other side of the World.
