Admissions Open For PRIA's Courses In Local Self Governance And Others

Admissions are now open for PRIA's six months Certificate Courses (April – September 2012)

 

PRIA International Academy of Lifelong Learning (PIALL), the academic wing of PRIA, believes in learning as a lifelong process and promotes the concept of education as a major instrument of development. It supports the premise that education is a human right, which improves the quality of life.  

PIALL draws upon the knowledge and resources of PRIA, which are in the form of research studies, field reports, audio-visual documentation, case studies, published books, newsletters and journals. They have been repackaged into learning material, which carry the PRIA brand and stand apart as quality products, which are value for money.

The Certificate Courses

The Certificate Courses are of six months duration and the next offering begins in April, 2012 and the last date of application is on 15 th March, 2011 .

International Perspectives in Participatory Research (Joint Certification of University of Victoria, Canada and PRIA): This programme is a unique collaborative initiative of PRIA International Academy of Lifelong Learning (PIALL) in India and Continuing Studies, University of Victoria located in British Columbia, Canada.This programme is an introduction to the practice and theory of community-based participatory research from the global perspective. The emphasis is on participatory research, community action and community transformation. Examples are drawn from international case studies. Issues of partnership, degrees of participation, and guidelines for practice are featured along with innovative ways of creating and representing knowledge in a community-based context. Completion of this programme will enable learners to design and conduct participatory research projects in their own communities.

International Perspectives in Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation (Joint Certification of University of Victoria, Canada and PRIA): This programme is a unique collaborative initiative of PRIA International Academy of Lifelong Learning (PIALL) in India and Continuing Studies, University of Victoria located in British Columbia, Canada.In the contemporary context the concept of participatory monitoring and evaluation(PME) has become an important means to enhance effectiveness and relevance of programmes,organisations and institutions in their pursuit of inclusive development , good governance and social change. This innovative course, one of its kind in a distance education mode, will consider a range of conceptual and practical issues faced by practitioners, adult educators,researchers,resource providers and policy makers in managing organisations and programmes in a participatory manner.The focus will be on participatory monitoring and evaluation.It will facilitate critical analysis of different debates and perspectives on the theme.

Occupational Health and Safety: This course isdesigned to provide learners with basic information, resources, discussion questions and interactive opportunities that motivate an understanding of Occupational Health and Safety. The methodology and case studies used in the programme are on the one hand tested in the field set up and on the other enriched by PRIA's networking with experts and practitioners. The course is focused on capacity building and demystifying the concepts and practices of the issues related to occupational health and safety and in the long run aims at educating each one concerned about and interested in the subject, in the anticipation, recognition, measurement, prevention, control and remediation of workplace-related hazards and diseases.

Understanding Gender in Society: This course has been developed to strengthen understanding on the concept of gender and for developing strategies for incorporating gender into everyday situations of personal and professional lives. Backed by PRIA's vast experience in the field and its commitment towards ensuring an equitable gender just society, this programme attempts to take you through the different dimensions of gender in relation to the society we live in today.

Participatory Training Methods: The course on Participatory Training Methods will familiarize the learners with the ideology of Participatory Training, its significance in social change and the principles of Participatory Training. The course will also entail designing of the training programmes, various methodologies and evaluation of the training programmes. It will also describe the roles, responsibilities and key competencies of a trainer in details.

Local Self Governance: This course aims to strengthen understanding on the concepts and principles of decentralisation and the fundamentals underlying local self governing institutions. PRIA's experience of 30 years in the area of Governance indicates that strengthening the local self governing institutions and empowering the people on local government is a responsible task. So here an attempt is made to establish and explain the need for local self governance and decentralisation and the challenges faced by them.

Eligibility

 The minimum required qualification is a Bachelor's degree in any subject. However, consideration will also be given to people with work experience who do not have the required Bachelor's degree.

Fees

 Course fees are payable in one installment. The course fee for Indian students is Rs.7500/-. For students outside India, the course fee is US$ 300. For applicants in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the course fee is INR 8500/-.
