Israel attacks a residential building in Beit Lahiya in Northern Gaza, killing at least 70 people

Gaza (Quds News Network)- More than 70 people, including children and women, were killed in an Israeli attack targeting a residential building sheltering displaced families in Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza.

Local sources and journalists have reported that two Israeli airstrikes hit the five-storey residential building, killing and wounding “tens” of people.

The number of dead remains unclear because an insufficient number of paramedics were able to reach the site of the attack, sources added.

The house was sheltering six families.

Gaza’s Government Media Office said at least 72 people were killed in the attack.

Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for the Gaza Civil Defense, said it cannot reach the site of the attack.

“The department received appeals from residents of a house bombed by the Israeli occupation in Beit Lahiya, but we cannot move to rescue them,” he said.

Gaza Health Ministry’s Director-General Munir al-Bursh told Al Jazeera that the “Israeli forces deliberately bomb civilians late at night so that no one could save them.”

He added, “Almost 30 percent of the victims of the Beit Lahiya massacre today are children. There are between 20 and 30 people under the rubble in Beit Lahiya who cannot be reached.”
