by Prof Jagdeep Chhokar and Dr E A S Sarma

Respected Rashtrapati Ji,
We write this in continuation of the appeal made to you on the 11th of December, 2024.
We earnestly feel that the only way to address the far reaching remarks made by Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, as referred in our earlier letter, is to ensure that the matter is discussed in the two Houses of the Parliament as envisaged in Article 217(1)(b) of the Constitution and the President of India passes an order on the basis of a resolution supported by a majority of the total membership of each House and by a majority of not less than two-thirds of the members of the House present and voting.
In our view, any other way to address this contentious issue would only result in diverting the attention of the public from the far-reaching adverse implications of Justice Yadav’s remarks. Such remarks erode the credibility of our judicial system, its impartiality and integrity.

May we therefore once again take the liberty of appealing to you to intervene by sending a message to either House of the Parliament under Article 86(2) at the earliest?
Respectfully,
Prof Jagdeep Chhokar, Former Professor of IIM(A)
Dr E A S Sarma, Former Secretary to the Government of India
