My eternal mind is pining in thirst

For the ambrosia of a hymn.

Parched vines seek pouring rain

The heart languishes in dust

For the ambrosia of a hymn.

In this spring night     with this infinite craving

The awakened soul brooding like a Chokor*

For the music of my soul.

Sleepless the moon in the sky   world awakening from slumber

Spirit, mind, and body    yearn in cheerless lilt

For the music of my soul.

*  The legendary Chokora is a mythical bird. It is believed that it has a close relationship with the Chandra (moon), as it feeds on the ray of the moon, or moonbeam. This bird is short in height, and therefore cannot reach for the moon, so it looks up in anticipation at its beloved, without any anguish.
