Gaza (Quds News Network)- Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, was subjected to severe mistreatment and torture after his arrest by Israeli forces, according to his family and legal representatives. The doctor, arrested on December 27, 2024, endured harsh conditions, including 24 days of solitary confinement. He was later transferred to Ofer Prison, where he continues to face poor treatment.

His health remains stable but precarious. Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya suffers from chronic high blood pressure and an enlarged heart muscle. Despite receiving some medical treatment, he is provided with only one meal a day, which his family describes as inadequate and poor quality.

Legal representatives maintain that Dr. Abu Safiya faces no charges. All accusations against him lack evidence, and his case remains unresolved. The Israeli public prosecution has not filed any charges, prompting hope for his eventual release. Dr. Abu Safiya has called for the world to act, urging global pressure to secure the release of detained healthcare workers and to ensure their rights are upheld.

The Israeli military kidnapped Dr. Abu Safiya during a raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital, where he was beaten before being detained. His condition worsened due to lack of proper medical care, with reports indicating he lost approximately 12 kilograms. His arrest and treatment have sparked outrage from human rights organizations, with calls for his immediate release.

The Palestinian human rights group, Al-Mezan, condemned the treatment of Dr. Abu Safiya as a violation of international law. The organization pointed out that his torture and ill-treatment violate the Geneva Conventions, specifically the protections afforded to medical personnel.

The Israeli military had reportedly denied Dr. Abu Safiya the right to meet with his lawyer. Despite urgent requests from human rights groups, the army has refused to allow a meeting until January 10, 2025.
