Walls

I am stupid.
We are all stupid.
We worship the idols
of human stupidity.
We build walls.

The alternative
is intimate and easy.

People everywhere are waiting…
Individually, people everywhere
are waiting. Not for the promise
of perfection or utopia.
Not for absolute answers
to the questions which tease
and torment us all.
Not to be saved
from foolishness, our shadows
or from our neighbors.

Only for the spontaneous
radiance of a smile
unique eloquence of a voice
a moment to share a
chapter from the story of a life
the trust to recite
a sacred poem dreaming
in the love-light of an amorous soul.

But we keep pretending
to be something we are not.
We build walls.
We worship towers.
