Ganatantrik Adhikar Surakha Sangathan (GASS), Odisha, strongly condemns the delay in opening the government-run Super Specialty hospital at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, Sambalpur district. Despite being completed six months ago, the hospital remains closed, depriving people of quality healthcare.
The delay is attributed to the wait for the Union Home Minister’s inauguration, scheduled for November last year. GASS questions the necessity of such formalities, emphasizing that government institutions are public property, owned by the people. The government’s decision to prioritize the inauguration over providing healthcare raises concerns about democratic behavior and prioritizing public needs.
This newly constructed hospital has 222 general beds and 50 ICU beds, catering to patients from 5-6 districts of Western Odisha and neighboring Chhattisgarh. Equipped with valuable equipment like dialysis machines, ICU facilities, and ventilators, the hospital has facilities to run nine departments, including nephrology, cardiology, and urology.
As people have elected the government and pay taxes to receive quality healthcare, GASS demands that the state government take immediate action to make the Super Specialty Hospital functional. The facilities have been built with people’s taxes, and it is the government’s responsibility to ensure they are utilized.
