As the national situation continues to deteriorate, the communal & caste polarisation, hate & violence continue to be instilled in our society, many social activists from across Maharashtra & the country have been discussing the need for a fresh national initiative.
After much deliberation, we realised the need for a national organization to be created to actively address the growing crisis of fascism & the threat that authoritarian rule poses to the Indian democracy & our constitution. We live in times of an ‘Undeclared Emergency’, and our democratic rights continue to wither away, and institutions created to safeguard our constitutional democracy are continuously being weakened and demonised.
In this dark hour, we believe that we need to take inspiration from our founders and be inspired by them to restore and strengthen our constitutional democracy enshrining the values of Justice, Equality, Compassion and Fraternity.
We need to urgently revive the spirit of our freedom movement and win back our nation from the divisive, hate filled, autocratic ideology of the Sangh.
After a long series of deliberations & discussions, we organised a day long meeting, wherein social activists from across Maharashtra attended. The meeting was held on 19 April in Mumbai.
The deliberations were focussed & productive. It was unanimously decided to form ‘Hum Bharat Ke Log’, which would stand committed to defending the values of the Constitution of India, which itself evolved from the progressive values of our Freedom Movement.
‘Hum Bharat Ke Log’ stands for the values of Social Justice, Equality, Fraternity & Liberty. We are committed to building a secular, harmonious, egalitarian, peaceful, inclusive, and compassionate society. Our objective is to unite the people of India, respect our pluralism & and diversity, and break the barriers of hate that are being created to divide our hearts & minds. We are committed to fight in a nonviolent manner to safeguard our Democracy.

We have begun our long journey from the progressive soil of Maharashtra. At the same time, we will strive to build the organization across the country.
