Gaza (Quds News Network)- Since limited humanitarian aid resumed on May 19, only 700 trucks of food and supplies have entered Gaza, the UN World Food Programme (WFP) said. That is equal to what entered in just one day during the ceasefire earlier this year.
WFP said the volume is far too small to meet the needs of Gaza’s 2.2 million people. The aid that was sent over the past three weeks includes 11,000 metric tons of food. But just 6,000 metric tons actually made it into Gaza — enough to feed fewer than 300,000 people for a month.
Before Israel’s full blockade, 600–700 trucks entered Gaza daily. WFP stressed that the current trickle is not enough to prevent starvation.
“After nearly 80 days of total aid blockade, the fear of famine remains high,” WFP warned in a statement.
Delays and denial of movement permits due to Israel’s expanded military operations are blocking most of the food and aid. Inside Gaza, the breakdown in law and order is also endangering deliveries. Israeli-backed armed gangs have looted trucks, injured drivers, and damaged vehicles, WFP added.
WFP urged Israel to improve conditions for aid convoys. This includes opening more crossings, approving movement permits faster, and guaranteeing safe routes for drivers and trucks.
“We need to reach families consistently, fairly, and safely — wherever they are in Gaza,” the agency said.
WFP currently has over 140,000 metric tons of food either inside or en route to the region — enough to feed Gaza’s entire population for two months. But without access, the food cannot be delivered.
WFP said food deliveries during the last ceasefire helped reduce hunger. “We can do this again,” the agency stressed, calling for an urgent new ceasefire to save lives.
Without it, WFP warns, Gaza remains at serious risk of mass starvation.
