Background: “Israel: The Horror Show of White Settler Colonialism” is the third in a series of webinars in memory of K.P.Sasi, well-known filmmaker and social activist and an Associate Editor of Countercurrents.org
Concept
This webinar challenges conventional narratives that frame the Israel-Palestine conflict as an ancient religious war or a clash between democracy and autocracy. Instead, we propose a fundamental reframing: understanding Israel as the final chapter of European settler colonialism—a five-century project that began with Columbus in 1492.
Key Discussion Points
The session will explore how Israel’s establishment follows the same colonial template applied across the Americas, Australia, and other territories, where European settlers systematically displaced indigenous populations while claiming lands as “empty” or “underutilized.” We will examine how this colonial logic persists today, making Palestine the last active site of European territorial expansion.
Our discussion will reveal the European origins of this conflict—how post-Holocaust Europe, rather than addressing its own complicity in anti-Semitic persecution, transferred the “Jewish problem” to Palestine. We will analyze the racial hierarchies within Israeli society itself, where European Jews maintain supremacy over Middle Eastern and African Jewish communities, mirroring colonial social structures worldwide.
We will explore why former colonial powers continue supporting Israel, and how Israeli techniques of population control have become templates for global authoritarian governance.
Toward Resolution
Moving beyond the paralyzing narrative of eternal religious conflict, we will discuss how recognizing the colonial reality opens pathways for political solutions. The session will emphasize the crucial role of the Global South in addressing this final remnant of European colonial expansion.
