World of children with special abilities

Penning down my experience teaching visually impaired people and physically/mentally challenged people. The first day had arrived, and I saw the students playing cricket on the ground. They would make sounds to let their respective teammates know where they were while doing fielding or while batting. I feel they have so much inside them; they can play football, basketball, cricket, and so many other games. They are very creative; they also play lovely music; they have their own ecosystem divided into groups; sometimes they fight, and sometimes they play joyfully united. 

I got to teach the students as a part of an NGO, and it was indeed a very pleasant experience. To express how I feel, my gratitude towards the students is priceless. I learned teamwork and courage from them.

I taught 12th, 7th, and 8th standard students.

While taking a reading session for students of 8th standard. A very bright child, Kevin, told us a story about a rabbit—the famous story about the rabbit and tortoise. Well, he made his own version, which was brilliant. In my sessions, I usually take the subjects of the children’s choice; I teach what they choose. So after the reading session, we had an art session. He also drew a rocket on one side of the paper, and on the other side, he drew a leopard and a lion. His friend Anish liked participating in the session without interacting too much. 

In also reference to the movie about Srikanth Bolla, a philanthropist and industrialist who has contributed to the social sector by establishing schools for blind and paper recycling centers. 

The potential in a human being is so much. As another reference, there is a documentary called “Ship of Thesis.” It was a brilliant work about how if one sensory organ is taken away from us, it takes a toll on our lives. Imagine being born without it. The students for whom I took reading sessions, art lessons, and subjects of their choice had a basic understanding of everything. A structured environment is what they do not favor; they favor a less structured environment. In a less structured environment, children with different abilities and talents get a space to grow. Grow in all ways.
