Socialist Party (India) condemns government attempts to block international travel of Neingulo Krome

Neingulo Krome

Neingulo Krome, Secretary General of Naga People’s Movements for Human Rights was prevented from going to Bangkok on 5 February, 2020 from Kolkata airport and now he has been stopped at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi on 7 April, 2025 when he was going to attend a conference of Asia Indigenous Peoples Act in Kathmandu. Socialist Party (India) condemns these arbitrary and illegal actions of Government of India which are clear violation of Neingulo Krome’s rights under national and international human rights regimes.

Neingulo Krome is well known for advocacy of Naga and indigenous people’s rights. It is reprehensible that Government of India instead of implementing the Framework Agreement of 2015 signed with the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isac-Muivah) is trying to impose travel restrictions on activists like Neingulo Krome. It is obvious that the government is trying to cover up its failure in implementing the Framework Agreement, 2015 and doesn’t want activists to criticize its failure.

Since the 1997 ceasefire Government of India has been continuously engaged with NSCN(IM) in dialogue and any violations of the ceasefire, like the ‘mistaken’ killing of 14 Naga labourers in 2021 by the Indian armed forces, have been done by the government but lately it seems to have developed a cold feet and doesn’t want the process to consummate in a solution. It has started playing games like tampering with the Framework Agreement, 2015 statement and setting up an alternative group Naga National Political Groups to weaken the legitimacy of NSCN(IM). It is noteworthy that dialogue is stuck on the demand of a separate flag and constitution by NSCN(IM) which they feel is due to them as part of the idea of shared sovereignty mentioned in the Framework Agreement, 2015 signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Naga people are against the withdrawal of Free Movement Regime by government straddling the India-Myanmar border where people from across the border are allowed to venture 16 kms inside the border on the other side without visa. Members of Naga as well Kuki communities live on both side of India-Myanmar border and are opposed to the fencing of border.
