Malayalam actor Alancier Ley Lopez made a unique plea for communal harmony in a one man protest show in Kasarkod, Kerala. He staged the show to express his protest against  BJP-RSS’s vicious targetting of Malayalam filmmaker Kamal. BJP state general secretary had ordered Kamal to leave the country, just because he happens to be a Muslim.

At about 4.30 PM yesterday, the actor dramatically appeared in the Kasrakod bus stand and started singing patriotic songs. He went inside buses and asked the passengers, now that the Sangh Parivar is asking people to leave country for their name and religion, where should he go.

When asked about this unique form of agitation, Alencier told the mediapersons that his performance was not a protest but defense. ‘I am an actor. If I am cold, I will pull a blanket over me. If it is hot, I will switch on the fan. But my country is turning out to be a place where I am being asked to go to Pakistan or Gujarat because of my name. It is a pity that we are living among people who don’t understand the meaning of our “Mahabharata”.’ He ended the show flashing his  underwear saying “the love for your underwear is not patriotism”

Last month, director and head of State Chalachitra Academy Kamal, a national award-winning filmmaker with 48 movies to his credit, was at the receiving end of a BJP allegation for his comments over national anthem in cinemas during the International film Festival of Kerala. Kamal had, as the head of the State chalachitra academy, which runs the International Film Festival of Kerala, said that it’s unfair to arrest delegates from inside the theatre over the national anthem issue. Much of Kerala realised that Kamal is a Muslim and that his full name is Kamaluddeen only after the poisonous BJP leaders started saying it publicly.

Alancier Lopez who is a theatre and film artiste is also popular for his roles in ‘Maheshinte Prathikaaram’, ‘Kammattipaadam’ and ‘Kismath’.
