Why America’s nuclear threat to Russia now is bigger than the Soviet nuclear threat to America was in the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis

During the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, the central issue was how short America’s available reaction-time to a Soviet blitz nuclear attack would be and whether it would be too short for America to respond before America’s leader, JFK, would be able to press the nuclear button and retaliate against such a Soviet nuclear first-strike (from so near a location as[Read More…]

The MADness of the Resurgent U.S. Cold War With Russia

The war in Ukraine has placed U.S. and NATO policy toward Russia under a spotlight, highlighting how the United States and its allies have expanded NATO right up to Russia’s borders, backed a coup and now a proxy war in Ukraine, imposed waves of economic sanctions, and launched a debilitating trillion-dollar arms race. The problem of nuclear waste has yet to be dealt with. There have been numerous plans made, numerous barrel-loads of dangerous waste dumped into rivers, water-ways and oceans, numerous false starts that went nowhere, and numerous failed projects. As cooling ponds around the world near their capacity, spent nuclear fuel rods have become the singular intractable problem for those who operate nuclear power plants. They generate high temperatures that must be controlled for decades. And they hold a mix of highly radioactive fission products that must be kept isolated from the environment for hundreds of thousands of years.

Meet Xkqfbl. He is a Martian. He can pronounce his name, but we can’t. So we’ll call him “Marty.” Marty is very interested in us earthlings. Moreover, his interest is entirely benevolent. Because he cannot live on our planet — our gravity and atmosphere forbid it — and because he has no use for our natural resources, Marty has no[Read More…]

Why U.S. Rulers Don’t Fear Nuclear WWIII With Russia

Why U.S. Rulers Don’t Fear Nuclear WWIII With Russia

The United States government has escalated the Cold War against Russia: demonizing Putin as the new Hitler, imposing sanctions on Russian leaders, implementing aggressive NATO military expansion to Russia’s border including installing an anti-ballistic missile “defense” that is actually a key component of an offensive nuclear strike, and threatening to impose a no-fly zone in Syria that would entail shooting[Read More…]

German Think Tank Warns Of Growing Nuclear War Danger

German Think Tank Warns Of Growing Nuclear War Danger

In September, the German pro-government think tank “Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik” (SWP) published a study on the implications of US policy towards Russia and European security. [1] The 28-page document is aimed at a professional audience and is written in political and military jargon that couches the annihilation of millions of human lives in matter-of-fact terms, as if dealing with[Read More…]

Montreal Declaration For Nuclear Fission Free World

By Global Network for a nuclear-free world. Tokyo Trilateral Meet Shows China Is Troubled Of North Korean Adventurism

Tokyo Trilateral Meet Shows China Is Troubled Of North Korean Adventurism

The developments in Far East since few days are quite complex. Three major developments have taken place. First US and South Korea have been involved in the joint annual drill which North Korea has criticized saying that it is in fact an invasion drill with a clear aim to destroy the country. Second development is launch of the submarine missile[Read More…]

Hiroshima – Nagasaki And U.S. Mythology

Hiroshima – Nagasaki And U.S. Mythology

The U.S. public has been kept in the dark or misled about foreign policy for much of our history. For example, as we commemorate the 71st anniversary of the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, let’s re-examine the myth of necessity of those barbaric acts. The myth that just won’t die and is believed by most Americans is[Read More…]

Why the Modern Nuclear Project Will Persist: At Least Until We Focus Action On Why It Is Persisting

Why the Modern Nuclear Project Will Persist: At Least Until We Focus Action On Why It Is Persisting

In Hiroshima, Japan, seventy-one years ago exactly from the midnight hour that I’m writing this, most people were asleep except for the night owls and diligent lovers.  I’d guess that most especially the middle school students would uniformly be deep in the throes of the land of Nod, since on the morrow—August 6, a school day—they’d all be up bright[Read More…]

Hiroshima And Nuclear Power: The Truth Of The Matter

Hiroshima And Nuclear Power: The Truth Of The Matter

On my grandfather’s sixtieth birthday on July 16th, 1945, the atomic bomb was tested in USA’s Nevada desert, and the world lost its nuclear innocence. Twenty-one days later, on August 6th, the experiment was live-tested on Japanese people when USA dropped a 15-kiloton Uranium-235 fission bomb on Hiroshima. The same day, the experiment was hailed in The New York Times[Read More…]

UK  Parliament Endorses Terracidal Nuclear Terrorism

UK  Parliament Endorses Terracidal Nuclear Terrorism

The UK Parliament recently overwhelmingly supported renewal of the Trident nuclear weapons system, with a psychopathic  new UK PM Theresa May declaring her preparedness to kill vast numbers of people with nuclear weapons. Total nuclear disarmament can and should happen. On the eve of the 71st anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, decent people around the world must[Read More…]

Hiroshima Day – ” A Call For Sustaining  Life On Earth “

Hiroshima Day – ” A Call For Sustaining  Life On Earth “

Life on earth can be  sustained by closing down all nuclear power plants and dismantling  all nuclear war heads. The nuclear war heads present on earth are capable of destroying the planet earth 15 to 20 times. This madness of destroying the earth 15 to 20 times is really cynical. Once nuclear war heads destroy the earth, all life will[Read More…]

Fooling Most Of The People Most Of The Time Is What American Politics Are About, Even When It Comes To The Threat Of Nuclear War

Fooling Most Of The People Most Of The Time Is What American Politics Are About, Even When It Comes To The Threat Of Nuclear War

I read a column recently, and it was imbued with hopeful thinking about America’s political establishment dealing with its constituents concerning the now increasing threat of nuclear catastrophe. The author said the piece was intended as “Drano” to clear the political pipes, but I am afraid that much as I sometimes enjoy the same author’s pieces, this one for me[Read More…]

Power And The Bomb: Conducting International Relations With The Threat Of Mass Murder

Power And The Bomb: Conducting International Relations With The Threat Of Mass Murder

“Some fell to the ground and their stomachs already expanded full, burst and organs fell out. Others had skin falling off them and others still were carrying limbs. And one in particular was carrying their eyeballs in their hand.” The above is an account by a Hiroshima survivor talking about the fate of her schoolmates. It was recently read out in[Read More…]

America Never Says Sorry

America Never Says Sorry

A hegemonic power never says sorry. Three recent episodes underscore this truism. When US President Barack Obama offered a floral wreath at the cenotaph of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park on 27 May 2016, some peace advocates in the United States, in Japan and in other parts of the world hoped against hope that he would say “sorry” for the[Read More…]

The Devil’s Century

The Devil’s Century

Our present generation is living out of the spiritually vacuous philosophies of modernism and post-modernism, the cancerous ideologies of free-market economics and unrestrained economic growth, and the corporate and political tyrannies that have nurtured an energised ethos of transience. The triumphalism of modernity has effectively wiped from our collective memories a coherent view of just what has gone down in[Read More…]

The Doomsday Clock: Nuclear Weapons, Climate Change, And The Prospects For Survival

The Doomsday Clock: Nuclear Weapons, Climate Change, And The Prospects For Survival

[This essay is excerpted from Noam Chomsky’s new book, Who Rules the World? (Metropolitan Books).] In January 2015, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists advanced its famous Doomsday Clock to three minutes before midnight, a threat level that had not been reached for 30 years. The Bulletin’s statement explaining this advance toward catastrophe invoked the two major threats to survival:[Read More…]
