Socialist (Party) India in collaboration with volunteers on the ground has been working actively for providing relief to low-income communities in Uttar Pradesh. The main focus of the relief work is providing food security to the marginalised sections of the society.
With the extension of lockdown till 3rd May 2020, the hardships of the daily wagers, migrant workers and low income communities across the country are only going to increase. With no income, no savings, and sometimes a lot of debt, these people are suffering from serious hunger and starvation.
Community Kitchens for the poor
The team has started been operating 8 community kitchens in Lucknow – two in Dubbaga, one each in Madiyaon, Hardoiya, Chowk, Gosainganj, Haider Canal and Gomti Nagar. The kitchens are operated directly by the community in need with support of the Socialist Party volunteers.
As of date, we have been able to provide ration to over 8500 people, either for free or at subsidised rates. In addition, we have been able to feed over 7000 meals through these community kitchens.
