Zionist-perverted and US-beholden Western Mainstream media are complicit in the ongoing Gaza Massacre and Gaza Genocide by forcing their journalists to self-censor and lie about the unspeakable atrocities being committed by genocidally racist, US- and US Alliance-backed, and neo-Nazi Apartheid Israel in the Gaza Concentration Camp. However decent journalists, writers and artists have been speaking out about this disgraceful perversion of the Awful Truth.
The key moral imperatives of Humanity are Kindness and Truth but these are grossly violated by genocidally racist and egregiously mendacious Apartheid Israel, the US, the US Alliance, and by the similarly perverted and Gaza Genocide-complicit Western Mainstream media. Before outlining this genocide-complicit Mainstream media censorship, the sheer horror of the Jewish Israeli-imposed genocide and child-killing in Gaza should be summarized.
According to Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, by 3 April 2024 (Day 180 of the Jewish Israeli-imposed Gaza Massacre) the Jewish Israeli-besieged and bombed Gaza Concentration Camp (2.3 million inmates) had suffered the following: 42,000 Palestinians had been killed (233 killed per day, and counting those dead under rubble) and including 38,000 civilians, 15,000 children, 10,000 women, 349 health workers, 196 aid workers, and 136 journalists, with 77,000 injured [1]. Meanwhile the World looks on, the US Alliance and Australia back US-backed Apartheid Israel, and the US Congress is close to approving a further $26.3 billion for Apartheid Israel and its ongoing Palestinian Genocide in the Gaza Concentration Camp.
Lying comes in 2 repugnant forms, lying by commission and lying by omission. Lying by omission is far, far worse than lying by commission because the latter at least permits public refutation and public debate. A notable and widespread variant of repugnant lying by omission is government secrecy, ostensibly in “the interests of national security” [2-5]. While truth–telling world hero Julian Assange has been cruelly imprisoned for 12 years in London for revealing US war crimes by violating “American lying by omission through government secrecy” I remain free in leafy Melbourne to report horrendous US Alliance war crimes based on analysis of publicly-available UN demographic data [6].
Brilliant and humane US writer Barbara Kingsolver in her novel “The Lacuna” has exposed how the quality Mainstream media (e.g. the Washington Post and the New York Times) would not stoop to outright lying by commission but massively lie by omission. The Yellow Press (e.g. the reprehensible Murdoch media) lie by commission and lie by omission. In “The Lacuna”, Barbara Kingsolver has Russian Communist revolutionary and theorist Leon Trotsky (Lev) and his assistant Van having the following discussion about media (2009): “”But newspapers have a duty to truth”, Van said. Lev [Trotsky] clicked his tongue. “They tell the truth only as the exception. Zola [French novelist of “J’accuse” fame] wrote that the mendacity of the press could be could be divided into two groups: the yellow press lies every day without hesitating. But others, like the Times, speak the truth on all inconsequential occasions, so they can deceive the public with the requisite authority when it becomes necessary.” Van got up from his chair to gather the cast-off newspapers. Lev took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes. ” I don’t mean to offend the journalists; they aren’t any different from other people. They’re merely the megaphones of other people” … [Trotsky observes to his assistant Shepherd] “Soli, let me tell you. The most important thing about a person is always the thing you don’t know”” [7].
Similarly, acclaimed Australian novelist Peter Carey: “I keep on thinking about the role of the media generally in this and how the media is always so continually hysterical about people lying and not telling the truth. And if I really think there’s a big problem in our society today, it’s that the media is not telling the truth to people and they know what it is. If you really want to know what’s happening [in] the world, you go out and get drunk with journalists and they will tell you what isn’t in the papers. So they’re living – these guys are living every day with the reality of a proprietor, say, or a corporation who owns them will not permit them to tell what they know to be true” [8]. Indeed Mark Twain: “The truth hurts, but silence kills”[9]. Peace is the only way but silence is complicity.
The most damning scholarly analysis of Western Mainstream media lying is the seminal book “Manufacturing Consent ” by Professor Noam Chomsky (linguistics, 85-Nobel-Laureate MIT) and Professor Edward Herman (finance, University of Pennsylvania) (1988): “In sum, the mass media of the United States are effective and powerful ideological institutions that carry out a system-supportive propaganda function by reliance on market forces, internalized assumptions, and self-censorship , and without any significant overt coercion. This propaganda system has become even more efficient in recent decades with the rise of the national television networks, greater mass-media concentration, right-wing pressures on public radio and television, and the growth in scope and sophistication of public relations and news management” [10].
Sketched below are examples of Western Mainstream Media management-imposed censorship and lying by omission.
(1). The Zionist-subverted New York Times orders its journalists to lie for neo-Nazi Apartheid Israel.
Working in New York 55 years ago I stopped buying the New York Times (arguably the top US newspaper) after it praised Indonesian dictator and mass murderer General Suharto, then visiting the US as an honoured guest, as “a person with impeccable anti-Communist credentials” (he gained power in 1965 via a US-backed military coup that was associated with the murder of 1 million Indonesians, this notably including many intellectuals and ethnic Chinese) [6]. Today the Zionist-subverted and Zionist-perverted New York Times orders its journalists not to use the terms “genocide’, “ethnic cleansing” , “occupied territory”, “refugee camps” and “Palestine” in relation to the ongoing Gaza Massacre and Palestinian Genocide. Silence is complicity.
Thus Jeremy Scahill, and Ryan Grim: “Amid the internal battle over the New York Times’s coverage of Israel’s war, top editors handed down a set of directives… The New York Times instructed journalists covering Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip to restrict the use of the terms “genocide” and “ethnic cleansing” and to “avoid” using the phrase “occupied territory” when describing Palestinian land, according to a copy of an internal memo obtained by The Intercept. The memo also instructs reporters not to use the word Palestine “except in very rare cases” and to steer clear of the term “refugee camps” to describe areas of Gaza historically settled by displaced Palestinians expelled from other parts of Palestine during previous Israeli–Arab wars. The areas are recognized by the United Nations as refugee camps and house hundreds of thousands of registered refugees. The memo — written by Times standards editor Susan Wessling, international editor Philip Pan, and their deputies — “offers guidance about some terms and other issues we have grappled with since the start of the conflict in October… Almost immediately after the October 7 attacks and the launch of Israel’s scorched-earth war against Gaza, tensions began to boil within the newsroom over the Times coverage. Some staffers said they believed the paper was going out of its way to defer to Israel’s narrative on the events and was not applying even standards in its coverage” [11].
(2).The racist, mendacious and Zionist-subverted British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) lies for Britain, US imperialism, settler-colonialism and Apartheid Israel.
The Zionist-subverted, Zionist-perverted and UK BBC, like the British Mainstream media in general, has an appalling record of lying by commission, lying by omission, and censoring in the interests of the British State. 3 of the most blatant instances of BBC malreportage over the “lying Bush official US version of 9/11” are as follows:
(i). Shortly before her assassination in 2007, leading Pakistani politician Benazir Bhutto in interview with David Frost referred in passing to “Omar Sheik the man who murdered Osama bin Laden” whereas the “official US version” was that he was alive (and was allegedly assassinated by the US in 2011) – the BBC censored those words out when the interview was re-broadcast [12].
(ii). BBC journalist Jane Standley reported in a broadcast from New York at 4.54pm eastern time that the World Trade Center Building 7 (WTC7) had collapsed while in the background WTC7 was still standing (it fell in the manner of a perfect demolition 26 minutes later, 7 hours after the Twin Towers came down [13]; a 2022 report by academic engineers concluded that all support structures had been simultaneously removed i.e. that it had been subject to perfect explosive demolition) [14-16]); and
(iii). Dr Niels Harrit (University of Copenhagen) and colleagues published a detailed paper in a physics journal on their discovery (using advanced chemical physics techniques) of active Thermitic explosive material in dust from the 9/11 World Trade Center catastrophe [17-19]. However a Search of the BBC for “Niels Harrit” yielded zero (0) mentions out of 288 results [20].
There is a massive record of BBC commitment to the “lying Bush official version of 9/11”. However in relation to the present and ongoing US- and Jewish Israeli-imposed Gaza Massacre and Gaza Genocide the BBC has exercised a more subtle process of censorship of decent journalists, bias and linguistic perversion. Thus Alasdair Soussi: “The BBC has been accused of editing out multiple calls for a ceasefire in Gaza in its coverage of an entertainment awards ceremony in Scotland. The Scottish arm of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) held its ceremony on Sunday in Glasgow. At the event, some public figures used their moment on stage to express solidarity with Palestinians from the besieged enclave. But they later found their words of support cut from the final edit of the show, which appeared on the British public service broadcaster’s streaming service, iPlayer. Among those to accuse the BBC of censorship was director Eilidh Munro, who prevailed in BAFTA Scotland’s best Short Film and Animation category. She used her acceptance speech to call on guests to “use your voice as filmmakers and artists” to lobby for a halt to Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, as her colleague Finlay Pretsell displayed a poster that read, “I refuse to be silent. Ceasefire now.” While Munro’s entire award-winning segment, which included her acceptance speech, was seen by viewers watching the livestream version produced by BAFTA Scotland, it was not included in the final BBC iPlayer edit” [21].
Further, Anealla Safdar: “The BBC has been accused by its journalists of failing to tell the story of the Israel-Palestine conflict accurately, investing greater effort in humanising Israeli victims compared with Palestinians, and omitting key historical context in coverage. In a 2,300-word letter written to Al Jazeera by eight UK-based journalists employed by the corporation, the BBC is also said to be guilty of a “double standard in how civilians are seen”, given that it is “unflinching” in its reporting of alleged Russian war crimes in Ukraine… The war has also divided newsrooms globally, with disagreements over how each side is being portrayed, the allegedly unequal level of empathy shown to Israeli and Palestinian victims, and the use of language. The BBC journalists said that across British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) platforms, terms like “massacre” and “atrocity”, have been reserved “only for Hamas, framing the group as the only instigator and perpetrator of violence in the region. This is inaccurate but aligns with the BBC’s overall coverage”. The Hamas assault, while “appalling and devastating … does not justify the indiscriminate killing of thousands of Palestinian civilians, and the BBC cannot be seen to support – or fail to interrogate – the logic that it does,” their letter reads” [22].
(3). The Australian ABC censors and bullies journalists for child-killing and genocidally racist Apartheid Israel.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is the taxpayer-funded Australian equivalent of the racist and mendacious UK BBC. While journalists working for commercial media have to toe the line of the owners [8], ABC journalists have an obligation to report to the public truthfully. Unfortunately the Zionist-subverted and US-beholden ABC insists on a “fake balance” which means in practice that the mass murder of 15,000 Palestinian children in the Gaza Concentration Camp (at a rate of 15,000 children killed/180 days = 83 per day) is largely unreported, and instead the ABC massively reports on asserted “anti-Semitism” (supporting Palestinian human rights is presented as asserted “anti-Semitism”), “Jewish Australian fears for their safety” , Australian social cohesion (assertedly threatened by reporting the horrific Gaza realities, routine lengthy reporting of the lying representations of the Jewish Israeli perpetrators, and largely ignoring pro-Palestinian representations. Malreportage over genocide is bad enough but malreportage in the interests of inimical foreign powers (in this instance the US and Apartheid Israel) is treason.
The ABC Management has a reprehensible policy of ordering its journalists not to use particular terms that accurately describe the century-long Palestinian Genocide by the serial war criminal Occupier Apartheid Israel, and the Gaza Massacre and Gaza Genocide by the child-killing Jewish Israeli perpetrators of mass murder in the Gaza Concentration Camp. Thus Calum Jaspar: “ABC boss David Anderson has drawn a line on the public broadcaster’s coverage of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, asserting it’s not the ABC’s role to accuse either side of alleged crimes. Anderson joined ABC Melbourne host Raf Epstein on Friday morning, fielding live talkback questions from the show’s listeners, including on the broadcaster’s hesitance to use the words “genocide” and “apartheid” when covering the conflict in Gaza. “When it comes to the use of those terms, the ABC won’t report using them ourselves. What we do is report other people using them,” David Anderson told ABC radio this morning… Anderson’s comments come after ABC staff voiced concerns in a news staff meeting about the broadcaster’s unwillingness to use terms including “invasion”, “occupation”, “genocide”, “apartheid” and “ethnic cleansing” regarding Israeli government policy and allegations made by human rights groups”[23].
In similar vein, Lyndal Rowlands, Erin Hale and John Power: “In a summary of a meeting on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC)’s coverage of the war, staff detailed concerns that coverage displayed pro-Israel bias, such as by accepting “Israeli facts and figures with no ifs or buts” while questioning Palestinian viewpoints and avoiding the word “Palestine” itself… “We’re worried the language we’re using in our coverage is askew, favoring the Israeli narrative over objective reporting. This is evident in our reluctance to use words such as ‘War crimes’, ‘Genocide”, ‘Ethnic cleansing’, ‘Apartheid’ and ‘Occupation’ to describe the various aspects of the Israeli practices in Gaza and the West Bank, even when the words are attributed to respectable organisations and sources,” staff said in the document, which is signed “Concerned ABC journalists and staff” and addressed to “managers and colleagues”. “Meanwhile, we’re quick to use ‘terrorist’, ‘barbaric’, ‘savage’ and ‘massacre’ when describing the October 7th attacks. Similarly, we regularly quote sources referring to highly contested claims made by Israel, but not those made by Palestinians and their supporters”” [24].
“A Letter from Journalists to Australian Media Outlets” stated: “Israel’s devastating bombing campaign and media blockade in Gaza threatens newsgathering and press freedom in an unprecedented fashion. Newsrooms around the world have a duty to cover these events with integrity, transparency and rigour. It is our duty as journalists to hold the powerful to account, to deliver truth and full context to our audiences, and to do so courageously without fear of political intimidation. Audiences are viewing much of this war through the lens of social media, fuelling suspicion of the mainstream media’s ability to properly inform audiences of events on the ground. We risk losing the trust of our audiences if we fail to apply the most stringent journalistic principles and cover this conflict in full… We – journalists from across the Australian media landscape – call on Australian newsrooms to undertake these steps to improve coverage: 1. Adhere to truth over ‘both-sidesism’. Both-sidesism is not balanced or impartial reporting; it acts as a constraint on truth by shrouding the enormous scale of the human suffering currently being perpetrated by Israeli forces. The immense and disproportionate human suffering of the Palestinian civilian population in Gaza should not be minimised…” [25]. The right-wing Sky News reported that ABC Management ordered staff not to sign the Open Letter: “Some of the highest profile signatories include ABC television presenter Tony Armstrong, former Reuters and Al Jazeera journalist Peter Greste and Network 10 television presenter Narelda Jacobs. The ABC, which has several reporters represented on the list, including the ABC’s MEAA National House Committee listing itself as a signatory, declined to comment. Its director of news, Justin Stevens addressed the letter in an email to staff on Friday, according to Crikey. “You should not sign any petition that may bring into question your impartiality or that of the ABC’s coverage,” the email said” [26].
The Tasmanian Times published my response in support of the ethical Australian journalists: “As a holocaust-impacted, anti-racist Jewish Australian/Tasmanian humanitarian I am inescapably bound by the key messages of the WW2 Jewish holocaust of ‘never again to anyone’, ‘bear witness’ and ‘zero tolerance for lying and racism’. I applaud the ethical Australian journalists for their timely open letter (Tasmanian Times 24/11) protesting outrageous mainstream media bias in reporting on Palestine and demanding provision of truthful historical context in reporting the latest horrendous and war criminal Israeli massacre of Palestinians in Gaza. I recently published a very detailed and documented analysis of 35 outrageous lies shockingly perpetrated and perpetuated by apartheid Israel, Zionists and pro-Zionist Western mainstream media and politicians *. The world has two kinds of people: those opposing the mass murder of innocents, and the others. Decent Australians will reject the Coalition, Labor and independent ‘others’ unforgivably opposing immediate permanent ceasefire and immediate cessation of the killing, the occupation and the century-long Palestinian genocide. The core ethos of humanity is (a) kindness and (b) truth. (4). Genocide-complicit English-speaking Mainstream media simply parrot lying Jewish Israeli propaganda (hasbara) about the Gaza Massacre and Palestinian Genocide.
Numerous examples can be given of massive censorship and lying by racist and morally degenerate Mainstream media in the English-speaking world. Indeed in relation to the Gaza Massacre I have systematically analysed 35 Ways the Zionist-perverted US, Australia and the West lie outrageously for child-killing, neo-Nazi Apartheid Israel [28]. Just 2 examples relating to the ongoing Gaza Massacre will suffice here to illustrate the point.
(a). “Israeli hostages” versus “Palestinian hostages”. Western news reports have at times given almost daily saturation coverage to 250 “Israeli hostages” captured by Palestinian fighters on 7 October 2020 to the exclusion of an average of 233 Palestinians killed every day in the Gaza Concentration Camp, the 10,000 “Palestinian hostages” highly abusively imprisoned in Israeli military prisons [29], and indeed 5.6 million Occupied Palestinians seized by Apartheid Israel in 1967 and highly abusively confined for 57 years to West Bank ghettoes or the blockaded and bombed Gaza Concentration Camp. If you Google “Israeli hostages” you get 2,800,000 Results, whereas if you Google “Palestinian hostages” you get a mere 94,600 Results – a Results/Hostages Ratio of 2,800,000/250 = 11,208 (for Israeli hostages) and 94,460/10,000 = 9.4 (for Palestinian hostages).
(b). “Hamas massacre” versus “IDF massacre” on 7 October 2023. The average Occupied Palestinian/Occupier Israeli Reprisals Death Ratio for the period 1 January 2008 – September 2023 was 6,407/308= 20.8 [30]. For the first 180 days of the latest Gaza Massacre the Reprisals Death Ratio has been 41,496/ 1,200 = 34.6. However the 7 October Breakout of lightly-armed Occupied Palestinian fighters from the Gaza Concentration Camp was to acquire Israeli hostages to swap for 10,000 Occupied Palestinian hostages held by Israel [30]. Israel has one of the top intelligence and surveillance services, the plans for the Breakout were known to many a year before it happened, and the Israel Defence Force (IDF) responded with tank shelling and high explosive missiles from helicopter gunships, killing about 1,500 Palestinians in Israel and a substantial proportion of the 1,200 Israelis killed in Israel, but lying Western media falsely reported a false Israeli narrative of a “Hamas massacre” or “Hamas terrorist massacre” . Fire-zone deaths are proportional to fire power and it is likely that a high proportion of Israeli deaths were due to the IDF, with the deaths serving as an “excuse” for the subsequent Gaza Massacre [31]. Assuming that the IDF was responsible for 50% of the Israelis killed on 7 October (an “IDF massacre”) then the Reprisals Death Ratio would have been 69.2, nearly 7 times greater than that of 10 ordered by Nazi leader Hitler and effected in the Ardeatine Massacre in Rome in 1944 [31]. Nazi is as Nazi does. The 99% Jewish Israeli IDF killed 1,500 Palestinian fighters within Israel on 7-8 October but again this is not called an “IDF massacre”. Google “Hamas massacre” and you get 328,000 Results, but Google “IDF massacre” and you get a mere 2,720 Results. Google “Reprisals Death Ratio” (a key measure of the hugely disproportionate Jewish Israeli reprisals) and one gets a mere 99 Results.
Final comments and conclusions.
The core moral imperatives of Humanity are (a) Kindness and (b) Truth but Jewish Israeli-run Apartheid Israel, the Zionists and the pro-Zionist West grossly violate this through (a) genocidal racism and (b) egregious mendacity. The world faces dire existential threats from nuclear weapons and climate change that must be urgently addressed with humanity and reason. The World cannot tolerate the genocidal racism and egregious lying of Apartheid Israel, the US and the US Alliance. The World can no longer simply watch as the US- and Jewish Israeli-imposed Gaza Massacre and Gaza Genocide continue unimpeded. If the World tolerates this ongoing Massacre of the Innocents in Gaza then it is simply establishing that this utter obscenity can happen to anyone – we are all Palestinians.
What has to happen urgently is summarized in the title of my recently published book: “FREE PALESTINE. End Apartheid Israel, Human Rights Denial, Gaza Massacre, Child Killing, Occupation and Palestinian Genocide” [32]. Decent Humanity must act by (a) informing everyone they can about the Awful Truth (racist and lying Western Mainstream media certainly won’t), and (b) urging and applying rigorous Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Apartheid Israel and all people, politicians, parties, collectives, corporations and countries supporting this genocidal and nuclear terrorist rogue state.
