The International Day of Democracy was established by means of a UN General Assembly resolution in 2007, to encourage governments to strengthen & consolidate democracy. It is observed worldwide on 15 September. It is meant to recall the principles and values of democracy, and to uphold and promote democracy. This year’s theme for the International Day of Democracy is “Empowering the next generation”, to highlight their essential role in advancing democracy, and ensuring that their voices are included in decisions that impact their world & their future.
