On 12 December 2023 the NUS unanimously passed a formal motion standing with Palestine at its annual National Conference, at which 156 delegates represented 23 university campuses across Australia. The motion condemned the 56-year Israeli Occupation, the Israeli collective punishment by siege and genocide in Gaza, persecution of staff and students, the destruction of schools, universities and educational institutions in Gaza, and the deadly deprivation of water, food and medical services.
The motion passed by National Union of Students National Conference, and disseminated by Media Release, stated: “The National Union of Students firmly opposes the Israeli government’s bombardment of Gaza, which has left over 20,000 people dead, and has displaced the majority of the population. We condemn the collective punishment by Israel of civilians by depriving them of food, water, medical supplies and other basic necessities. We send our unequivocal solidarity with all those subjected to the escalating genocide. NUS opposes violence against all civilians. We strongly condemn attacks that result in the destruction of schools, universities and educational institutions. NUS stands in solidarity with students and staff who have been expelled or fired from schools and universities in Israel and Palestine, for social media posts critical of the IDF’s actions in Gaza. The NUS acknowledges that calls for a free Palestine are not anti-Semitic and supports Students across the country rallying in support. We make an urgent call for an immediate end to the siege on Gaza, and an end to the occupation of Palestine. In order to prevent more loss of life, we call for the lifting of the current blockade on humanitarian supplies, including access to water, food and healthcare as a fundamental human right. We condemn the Australian Government’s support for Israel. The National Union of Students stands for an end to this genocide. Peace can not be obtained without equal rights for the Palestinians. We call for the world to recognise Palestinian self-determination.”
Some key aspects of this important NUS Motion are systematically considered below.
(1). Zionist lying: Zionist-subverted, pro-Apartheid Israel and hence pro-Apartheid Australia and US Alliance so far ignore the NUS Motion.
Decent anti-racist folk around the world will applaud this important moral stand taken by the Australian National Union of Students (NUS). However as far as I can ascertain the NUS Motion has been ignored by the Mainstream journalist, editor, politician, academic and commentariat presstitutes of Zionist-subverted, Zionist-perverted, neo-Nazi, and US lackey Australia that is second only to serial war criminal, genocidally racist and neo-Nazi America as a supporter of Apartheid Israel and hence of the vile crime of Apartheid. The “International Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid” condemns Apartheid as a crime against Humanity [1-4].
A glaring paradox of the US Alliance Western parliamentary democracies is that one-person-one-vote democracy is totally antithetical to Apartheid. Except for the Greens and Socialists, Western politicians overwhelmingly support Apartheid Israel and hence the evil crime of Apartheid. However, those who support Apartheid Israel and hence Apartheid are utterly unfit for public office and public life in one-person-one-vote democracies. This glaring contradiction persists in the Zionist-subverted West because of a century of flagrant and blatant Zionist lies that became a torrent of lies when deeply racist America became firmly Zionist-beholden after Apartheid Israeli acquisition of nuclear weapons by the middle 1960s. For systematic and documented exposure of scores of Zionist lies that are blindly accepted and promulgated by the West see [5-10].
Perhaps the most critical Zionist/Western lies from a legal perspective are the false assertions that “Palestinians do not have the right of (violent) resistance to Israeli Occupation” and that “Israel has a right to defend itself (from OccupiedPalestinians)”. The Preamble to Universal Declaration of Human Rights [11] and Article 51 of the UN Charter permit self-defence and rebellion by Occupied people [12]. Francesca Albanese (eminent human rights lawyer and UN Special Rapporteur for the Occupied Palestinian Territory): “[Israel is] claiming a non-existent right to self-defence… But the law remains the law and this is what we should follow. So, the right of self-defence can be invoked when a state is threatened by another state which is not the case. Israel has not claimed that it has been threatened by another state. It is being threatened by an armed group (qualify this as you will) by an armed group within the Occupied Territory. And frankly, even saying the war between Gaza and Israel is wrong because Gaza is not a stand alone entity but is part of the Occupied Territory. That so, in particular Israel cannot claim the right of self-defence against a threat that emanates from the territory it occupies, from a territory that is kept under belligerent occupation” [13].
(2). Zionist subversion of the US Alliance, Australia and universities via the anti-Semitic and holocaust-denying International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
While numerous anti-racist Jewish intellectuals are resolutely critical of the ongoing Palestinian Genocide, Western Mainstream Media variously censor or white-wash the nuclear terrorist, genocidally racist, and grossly human rights-abusing conduct of Apartheid Israel. A part explanation for this huge moral discrepancy is that the American 60% of the world’s 30 biggest media companies have a disproportionately high Jewish (and Zionist) Board membership. Jews and females represent 2% and 51%, respectively, of the US population but average 33% and 19%, respectively, of Board members of the top 18 US media companies [14].
Not content with this massive Zionist control over Western mainstream media, in recent years the Zionists have mounted a huge campaign of vilification and lying against critics of Israeli Apartheid via the false and obfuscatory Definition of Anti-Semitism of the all-European, and mostly genocide-complicit International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). A major victim of the IHRA was the most anti-racist UK Labour leader ever, Jeremy Corbyn [15].
The IHRA Definition is anti-Jewish anti-Semitic and anti-Arab anti-Semitic by falsely defaming anti-racist Jews, Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims opposed to Israeli Apartheid and the ongoing Palestinian Genocide. Shockingly, the IHRA Definition of anti-Semitism is near-comprehensively holocaust denying by ignoring all WW2 holocausts other than the WW2 Jewish Holocaust (5-6 million Jews killed by Nazi Germany and its allies through violence and deprivation), namely (people killed by violence and deprivation in brackets) the Polish Holocaust (6 million Poles killed by Nazi Germany), the WW2 European Holocaust (30 million Slavs, Jews and Roma killed), the WW2 Chinese Holocaust (35-40 million Chinese killed under the Japanese, 1937-1945), the WW2 Bengali Holocaust (WW2 Indian Holocaust, WW2 Bengal Famine; 6-7 million Indians deliberately starved to death for strategic reasons by the British with food-denying Australian complicity). Indeed the IHRA Definition ignores about 70 other genocide and holocaust atrocities including 30 involving Australia, this making the IHRA the most egregious holocaust-ignoring organization in the world. Not surprisingly the IHRA has been condemned by scholars around the world and by over 40 anti-racist Jewish organizations [15-18].
In 2022 Melbourne University (MU), formerly Australia’s top university, succumbed to racist Zionist subversion by falsely defaming anti-racist Jewish and non-Jewish staff and students as anti-Semitic for criticism of Israeli Apartheid [19, 20]. A long-time fervent supporter of free speech and especially academic free speech [21] I wrote in protest to the University of Melbourne management but received no replies. However I published my defence of these anti-racist students around the world [19, 20].
Since then the IHRA Definition has been adopted by the UK Labour Party, the UK Tories, the Australian Labor Party, Australian Young Labor, the unspeakable Australian Coalition Opposition and the Zionist-subverted US lackey Australian Labor Government. Australia is a member of the all-European, 35-member IHRA. Presently 5 Australian universities have adopted the IHRA definition, and 7, including the Australian National University and the University of Adelaide, have publicly rejected the call [22-24]. Indeed after the University of Adelaide politely declined to adopt the IHRA Definition, Zionists falsely and offensively declared that the beautiful and progressive city of Adelaide was “the antisemitism capital of Australia”.
Adoption of the IHRA Definition by Australian universities threatens free speech vital for scholarship because they now all have Codes of Conduct restricting free speech and overseen by university managers [22-24]. Indeed 2,500 staff and students signed an Open Letter criticizing the University of Melbourne’s stance [24]. The core moral ethos of Humanity is Kindness and Truth but the University of Melbourne’s offensive and mendacious position violates both core principles and threatens decent students and staff. Monash University became the fifth Australian university to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of “anti-Semitism” (after Melbourne, Macquarie, Wollongong and Sunshine Coast universities) [25].
Public institutions, corporations, and businesses have to do “due diligence” when employing people. However the University of Melbourne’s stance means that all its graduates past, present and future will now have to answer the following legitimate job interview questions: Are you anti-Jewish anti-Semitic? Are you anti-Arab anti-Semitic? Are you a holocaust denier?
(3). The NUS Open Letter made the crucial demand for full human rights for Palestinians.
The NUS Open Letter stated: “Peace can not be obtained without equal rights for the Palestinians.” Human rights is the core issue in Palestine. Decent people believe the assertion in the American Declaration of Independence that “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” [26]. Indeed this is echoed in Articles 1- 3 of the “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” that state: “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights [Article 1]… Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind [Article 2] … Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person [Article 3]” [11]. These truths are “self-evident” to decent human beings (DHBs) but not to exceptionalist, pro-Apartheid Israel and hence pro-Apartheid America and not to the genocidally racist, neo-Nazi Apartheid Israel that it so fervently supports.
I first personally encountered departures from this ideal when as a child of about 10 in 1954 I asked my parents about the blue number tattooed on the arm of a family friend (a concentration camp survivor) and discovered that like her I was Jewish and exterminably so. At about 20 I and my beautiful, dark-brown, Bengali- , Bihari- and Muslim-origin partner were refused entry to a tram in Hobart, Tasmania, where we were taught in school that “all the Blacks (the original Indigenous Aborigines) had died out” – fortunately decent human beings (DHBs) on the tram angrily and successfully insisted that we be allowed to board. Despite growing up in a genocidally racist White Australia, thanks to my partner then (and later dear wife for 52 years) I was apprised of the racist realities of colonialism and knew that we are all created equal although we couldn’t visit the American Deep South when we worked in America or visit Apartheid South Africa on our travels.
Although I have published (overwhelmingly outside Australia) hundreds of carefully researched humanitarian articles and 9 huge books, in the last dozen years I have been rendered “invisible” to Mainstream Australia by false Zionist defamation (the racist Zionists have a disproportionately large public voice and deep hatred of anti-racist Jews). Nevertheless I write numerous science-informed Letters to the Zionist-and US-beholden Mainstream media in the Quixotic hope that the facts might touch their consciences. The following Letter recently sent to the Mainstream presstitutes summarizes the key demands for Palestinian human rights (it was not published of course):
“The key solution to the Middle East “conflict” can happen today with the stroke of a pen granting 15 million Exiled, Occupied and Israeli Palestinians equal rights and all the human rights set out in the 30 Articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Unfortunately nuclear terrorist, genocidally racist, child killing and neo-Nazi Apartheid Israel will simply not meet this minimal humanitarian demand, and until it does the civilized world must apply stringent Boycotts, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Apartheid Israel and all its genocidally racist supporters. In Australia that means BDS against all the Federal MPs (except for the Greens and Lidia Thorpe) who unforgivably trashed Australia’s international reputation by opposing an immediate Ceasefire and cessation of the genocidal Gaza Massacre i.e. the Kindness- and Truth-violating, racist and mendacious Koalition [Coalition], Independent and Labor Liars (the KILLs). Children killed per day was 1,000 (for Jewish children in WW2) and is 150 (since 7 October for Occupied Palestinian children in Gaza). The world has 2 kinds of people, those unequivocally opposed to the mass murder of children and the others who include the genocidally racist and Zionist-perverted US Alliance countries and notably the Australian KILLs and those voting for them.”
(4). Updated circumstances and global responses to US-backed Apartheid Israel’s ongoing Gaza Massacre and Gaza Genocide.
It is now about 9 weeks since the Occupied Palestinian breakout from the Gaza Concentration Camp on 7 October to grab hostages to be exchanged for 10,000 Occupied Palestinians highly abusively imprisoned by Apartheid Israel, and indeed for 5.6 million Occupied Palestinians highly abusively held hostage for up to 56 years for the Zionazi-asserted “crime” of being Indigenous Palestinians still living in Palestine. However the Western Mainstream adopts an Orwellian view of reality, making the perpetrator (Apartheid Israel) the victim. Thus in relation to Zionist-subverted US lackey Australia, Middle East scholar, Dr Scot Burchill, stated: “Within Australia’s mainstream political narratives, there is no mention of Israel’s “colonialism” or “colonisation” of Palestine, let alone “genocide” or “apartheid”” [28].
The neo-Nazi, pro-Apartheid Western Mainstream journalist, editor, politician, academic and commentariat presstitutes simply regurgitate the Zionazi Big Lie of a “Hamas terrorist massacre of 1,200 Israelis on 7 October”. However reports, notably from award-winning Western journalists Chris Hedges and Jonathan Cook [29-37], indicate that Apartheid Israel allowed the Hamas breakout to capture hostages, then responded with helicopter gunships and tanks in a bloody and scorched earth “Hannibal Directive” to destroy both hostages and captors, and then embarked on a genocidal Gaza Massacre and an already-achieved third mass population expulsion atrocity (after the expulsion of 0.8 million Palestinians in the 1948 Nakba and 0.4 million in the 1967 Naksa) with 2 million homeless and about half the population expelled to southern Gaza (ethnic cleansing).
War criminal Netanyahu once regretted that Israel had not used the global distraction of the Tiananmen Square Massacre to expel all the Occupied Palestinians [38]. This indeed may be the secret strategy of the genocidally racist Israelis – they have already made most of tiny Gaza and half of the West Bank uninhabitable for Palestinians. Indeed the Israeli “Greater Gaza Plan” was revealed in a recently leaked Israeli Government report that favours expulsion of the Gazans into the Sinai desert of Egypt [39]. While the proportions of the 1,200 of Israeli deaths on 7 October due to the IDF or Palestinian fighters are not yet known, the extent of the horrendous Gaza Massacre by Apartheid Israel is known (over 20,000 Palestinians killed, with this including 1,500 Palestinians killed in Israel in the breakout, and taking into account those missing and dead in the rubble) [34].
The Mainstream media and politicians of Zionist-subverted and Zionist-perverted America and the US-beholden West continue to give saturation coverage to the “lying official version of 7 October ” purveyed by the genocidally racist and utterly mendacious Israeli and US governments unforgivably involved in this latest horrendous and genocidal Gaza Massacre – as determined on 1 December most Gazans homeless, 20,300 Palestinians killed (this including 1,500 Palestinians killed in Israel in the breakout, and taking into account those missing and dead in the rubble), 37,700 injured, and 2.3 million Occupied Palestinians in Gaza mortally threatened not just by bombing but even more so by lack of water, food, shelter, medical requisites, and medical treatment [34 and all this in reprisal for 1,200 Israeli Occupiers killed on 7 October with quite possibly most having been killed in the Israel Defence Force (IDF) response to the Palestinian breakout from the Gaza Concentration Camp. Of the 1,200 Israelis killed 84.2% (1,010) were 18-39 years old (i.e. were current Israeli military, conscripts or reservists), 13.3% (160) were 40 and older (with most being former or existing military), and 2.5% (30) were aged under 18 (i.e. were children) i.e. over 84% of those killed were legitimate military targets as serving Occupying forces [34].
While the cowardly, Zionist-subverted and US lackey Australian Labor Government voted Yes to the latest UNGA Ceasefire Resolution, it qualified this by voting for an anti-Hamas US amendment that was not carried, and issued a joint statement with Canada and New Zealand condemning Hamas [40]. It had apparently taken 9 weeks of horrendous killing with over 20,000 Palestinians deaths, most Gazans without water, food, shelter and medical help, and Gazans still being mercilessly bombed for the Australian Labor Government to finally abandon its former cowardly Abstention from the UNGA Ceasefire Resolution in late October and to now vote for a Ceasefire. Morally degenerate Australian Governments are driven by 1 major consideration – electoral support for the next election. The conservative, pro-Apartheid Israel, pro-Apartheid and US lackey Liberal Party-National Party Coalition Opposition and Labor Government (aka the Lib-Labs) fervently support the genocidally racist Israeli war criminals but Labor in particular is worried by the mounting electoral backlash over unforgivable Australian support for neo-Nazi Apartheid Israel and its mass murder of over 20,000 Occupied Palestinians including 9,000 children.
Over a month ago all the Federal Australian MPs ( except for the Greens) voted against a Ceasefire and the Koalition (Coalition), Independents and Labor Liars merit the acronym KILLs. Words fail to describe their moral degeneracy but Kid Killing Krap (KKK) is appropriate – pro-Apartheid Australia fervently supports child-killing Apartheid Israel through diplomacy, intelligence, arms, extensive military co-research in Australian universities [34, 43-44] and sustained, in-your-face lying [5-10, 34]. A sustainable position is that there is bestiality, paedophilia and incest and then there is supporting the pro-Apartheid Australian Lib-Labs, KILLs and KKK (violated animals can be humanely euthanized, and violated humans can be given the very best psychiatric help, but the 2 million Palestinians killed so far by the Zionazis through violence and deprivation in the century-long Palestinian Genocide are gone forever). Under Coalition or Labor Governments Australia is second only to the US as a fervent supporter of Apartheid Israel and hence of Aparthe3id.
Australian Labor is supposedly really good at estimating votes . Thus of the 150,000 Australian Jews (0.6% of the Australian population) [46] about 100,000 (0.4% of the Australian population) are fervent Zionists and don’t vote Labor , and of a hopefully estimated 50,000 anti-racist Jewish Australians one guesses that most vote for the decent Greens and not for Zionist-subverted, US lackey and pro-Apartheid Labor nor the unspeakable Coalition. Muslim Australians total over 0.8 million (or 3.2% of the Australian population) [47] to which one can add 100,000 Arab Christians (0.4% of the Australian population), none of whom would support the mass murder of Arab and Muslim children.
It gets worse for pro-Apartheid Israel Labor. Naftali Tamir (former Israeli Ambassador to Australia), emboldened by Australian Lib-Lab support for Apartheid Israel, stated (2006): “Israel and Australia are like sisters in Asia. We are in Asia without the characteristics of Asians. We don’t have yellow skin and slanted eyes. Asia is basically the yellow race. Australia and Israel are not – we are basically the white race. We are on the western side of Asia and they are on the southeastern side. Israel has not fully acknowledged the value of working together with Australia in Asia. It’s a way for us to cooperate with and enhance our position in the countries neighboring Australia” [38]. Racist White Australia has supported all post-1950 US Asian wars (the Coalition all of them, Labor all but the Vietnam War and the Iraq War) that have been associated with 40 million Asian deaths from violence and war-imposed deprivation [48-51]. However while Australia loudly boasts of its success as a multicultural society this national narcissism hides huge deficiencies. The 2018 “Leading for Change” analysis shows that while Whites and non-Whites are 76% and 24%, respectively, of the population, they represent 94.9% and 5.1%, respectively of the senior leadership of Australian organizations and institutions. Australia has been rocked by huge scandals in the 4 Big Banks in which Whites and non-Whites average 89.7% and 10.3%, respectively, of Board members. Lack of cultural diversity evidently facilitates corporate malfeasance [52, 53]. One supposes that the 24% of non-White Australians would not approve of the Lib-Lab-backed and utterly unforgivable, active and passive Apartheid Israeli mass murder of over 20,000 non-European Occupied Palestinians in the last 2 months, and of 2 million over the last century [48-51].
In stark contrast to the pro-Apartheid Australian Lib-Labs, KILLs and KKK , the Greens, the Socialists, and Indigenous, Muslim, Arab and anti-racist Jewish Australians are unequivocally opposed to Israeli Apartheid and the ongoing Palestinian Genocide.
Free Palestine Melbourne has helped organize huge Sunday Rallies for Gaza every Sunday in the heart of Melbourne since the Gaza Massacre commenced on 7 , and we vow to continue (every Sunday at 12 noon at the State Library). Each Rally starts with half a dozen speeches and concludes with a march through Melbourne to Parliament House. The passionate speakers include leading Greens, Socialists, trade unionists, health workers, human rights activists, Indigenous Australians, Muslims, Arabs, Palestinians, students and anti-racist Jewish Australians (the latter getting huge applause from the tens of thousands of demonstrators). The biggest rally had 45,000 people and these huge Rallies have gone on every Sunday for a remarkable 9 weeks now and will continue. I have attended all but 1 of the Rallies – the first few long Rallies were exhausting but now in my 80th year I find that I am now getting fitter with all these Rallies and long marches through the city. I was gratified a few weeks ago when the wonderful John Shipton (father of Australian Julian Assange, imprisoned for 11 years for anti-war truth-telling) addressed the Rally and quoted “Dr Gideon Polya of Melbourne” over the millions killed in US wars. At each rally I carry a big, bold, and highly visible 2-sided placard that says WORLD: STOP PALESTINIAN GENOCIDE and on the other side the peaceful and effective solution: BOYCOTT APARTHEID ISRAEL .

On 13 December 153 countries voted for the latest UNGA Resolution for a Ceasefire in Gaza [].
The 10 countries that voted against the resolution were : Austria, Czech Republic, Guatemala, Israel, Liberia, Micronesia, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, United States.
The 23 countries that abstained were:Argentina, Bulgaria, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Malawi, Marshall Islands, Netherlands, Palau, Panama, Romania, Slovakia, South Sudan, Togo, Tonga, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Uruguay.

Notable among the Yes votes are many Western countries that normally fervently support nuclear terrorist, racist Zionist-run, genocidally racist, serial war criminal, grossly human rights-abusing, child-violating, mother–violating, women-violating and child-killing Apartheid Israel – it seems that in remorselessly killing 9,000 children over 2 months neo-Nazi Apartheid Israel has gone too far for many of its most fervent supporters.
What can decent Humanity do in the face of this horrendous mass murder and demolition of the over 3,000 year old city of Gaza that was home for 2.3 million Palestinians?
