Recently, a public school in the Seattle area announced that it would be holding an open seminar on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Fifteen minutes before the seminar was to begin, the principal of the school sent out a message saying the seminar was cancelled. The reason? Apparently, it was to protect the “privacy” of students. Uhhuh.
The communication was formal, but it was clear that the principal wasn’t happy with the outcome; clearly, an educational opportunity in an educational institution would seem appropriate.
Right? Well not if the subject is Palestine. In the case of Palestine, school officials feel the need to publicly declare the existence of a basic seminar while on thousands of other topics, no communications are sent. “Transparency” is necessary only in the case of Palestine. In the case of Palestine, American Zionist parents immediately shut down conversation and essentially threaten school officials and teachers.
So what are these parents scared of? Do they want Creationists to shut down Biology classes? Flat-earthers to shut down Physics classes? Or is only one topic verboten?
This incident highlights the rot in our society and in our body politic. Hyperbole? Not at all.
