Why Australia Should Quit  Military Links With Serial War Criminal America

Australia became a fervent ally of the US after the fall of Singapore to the Japanese in 1942. Australia was thence involved in all post-1950 US Asian wars, atrocities  associated with 40 million Asian deaths from violence and imposed deprivation. Now, as a US lackey Australia absurdly and dangerously beats the drums of war against a peaceful and non-expansionist China, it is time for urgent re-assessment. Australia should quit the Asian-killing and indeed Australian-killing US Alliance.

The US Alliance is the sine qua non of Australian politics. It is blindly accepted by the 2  major political groups, the centrist to right  Labor Party (that presently rules Australia) and the conservative right to far right Liberal Party-National Party Coalition (that is presently in opposition), and who are collectively known as the Lib-Labs. Various Independents also fervently support the US Alliance. However the Greens want a renegotiation of the US Alliance. Australia has an excellent compulsory and preferential  voting system in which voters have to vote for all the candidates in order of preference. If a candidate fails to get 50% of first preference (primary) votes then the second preference votes are considered. The Greens being a left-centre  party, most of the Greens’ second preferences go to Labor [1]. In the 2022 Federal election, Labor got 32.6% of first preference votes, the Liberal-Nationals 35.4% , the Greens 12.3% and the minor parties and independents  19.7%. In 2022 Labor was elected with the help of  Greens’ preferences, gaining a “2-party preferred vote” of 52.1% as compared to the Coalition 47.9% [2].

Through a combination of stupidity, fear, neoliberal greed and ignorance (the mendacious Australian Mainstream media are substantially owned by the US Murdoch empire, and the rest are also cravenly US-beholden), Australians overwhelmingly support the serial war criminal US Alliance. However the unambiguously decent, pro-peace and progressive Greens (the third ranking party with 12.3% of the vote) want Australia to “renegotiate the US alliance” and to stop the Lib-Labs wasting hundreds of billions of dollars on [US] weaponry and [US] wars [1]. Specifically, the Greens advocate the following: (i) Renegotiate the US alliance to secure a new relationship focused on making us a better global citizen. (ii) Pass War Powers legislation to ensure governments can’t send us to war without Parliamentary approval. (iii)  Close all military bases that foreign militaries have set up in this country. (iv) Sign and ratify the Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty [TPNW]. (v) Ban the development and use of Lethal Autonomous Weapons in line with the international campaign ‘Stop Killer Robots’. (vi) Reduce military spending to 1.5 % of GDP by buying fewer guns and tanks, and ensuring that we have a light, readily deployable and highly mobile force that meets the needs of our place in the world. (vii) Increase oversight of defence procurement by establishing a Parliamentary Defence Office to provide independent advice to Members of Parliament [1].

Summarized below are cogent arguments why Australia should quit its AUKUS alliance with nuclear terrorist, genocidally racist and serial war criminal America and the UK.

(1). War typically violates International law, and is the penultimate in repugnant racism, with genocide being the ultimate in racism. The UN Charter forbids a party from invading another country except when (i) the country has invited the party to enter, (ii)  the country has attacked the party, and (iii) when sanctioned by the UN Security Council, and in all cases only after extensive negotiations. According to Articles 55 and 56 of the Fourth Geneva Convention (the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War), an Occupier of the territory of another country is inescapably obliged to provide its conquered Subjects with life-sustaining food and medical services “to the fullest extent of the means available to it” [3].  While “holocaust” implies death of a huge number of people, “genocide” is defined by Article 2 of the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide thus: “In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: (a) Killing members of the group; (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group” [4]. As set out below the US and Australia as a US lackey have grossly violated these laws and fundamental humane principles.

 (2). The US is a horrendous serial invader of other countries. Apart from inevitable border spats, most countries in the world have not invaded other countries. Costa Rica does not even have an army. In stark contrast, the US has invaded 72 countries (52 since WW2) [5-8], has committed 469 invasions from 1798 onwards [9, 10], committed 251 invasions since 1991 [9, 10],  and has 800 military bases in over 70 countries [11]. The US actively spies on and subverts all countries, deceives and spies on  its craven ally Australia  [12, 13], and indeed supplies raw intelligence on Australians to Apartheid Israel [14]. The Whitlam Labor Government (1972-1975) was removed in a UK- and US-backed coup. Wikileaks revealed that several Labor MPs gave insider information about the Labor Government to the US Embassy [15]. Popularly-elected Labor PM Kevin Rudd was removed in a US approved, mining corporation-backed and pro-Zionist-led coup in 2010 [16]. While  the US has invaded 72 countries, by way of comparison the British have invaded 193 countries, Australia 85, France 82, Germany 39, Japan 30, Russia 25, Canada 25, Apartheid Israel 12 and China 2 [1, 3, 17-20].

(3). War criminal active and passive mass murder by the US and the US Alliance.

US General Tommy Franks notoriously declared “We don’t do body counts” [21]. However top US medical epidemiologists and a UK polling organization  independently obtained estimates from direct surveys of how many Iraqis were killed violently in the first few years of the  invasion and occupation by the US Alliance. Based on this data the US “Just Foreign Policy” organization estimated 1.5 million violent Iraqi deaths in 2003-2011 (i.e. in the period from the 2003 invasion to the withdrawal  of most US Alliance forces in 2011) [22-25]. However “Iraq Body Count” estimates about 300,000 violent Iraqi deaths based on flawed reliance on unreliable media and government  reports [21]. Richard Kerbaj in “The Secret History of the Five Eyes” (2022) quotes an estimate of 0.5 million deaths: “Half a million Iraqis were killed and more than 9 million were displaced during the Iraq War, and despite numerous inquiries by Britain and the US into the policy and intelligence failures that led to the invasion, Blair’s position on it remained largely unchanged” [12].

However, missing from this accounting are what can be readily determined from readily available UN Population Division data, namely horrendous avoidable deaths from war-imposed deprivation that total 1.2 million for Iraq (2003-2011) [22-25] –  passive mass murder by the US Alliance that is resolutely ignored by the journalists, editors, politicians, academics and commentariats of the Western Mainstream.  Avoidable mortality or excess mortality (e.g. from smoking) is a key concept in medical epidemiology that informs sensible life choices by informed journalists, editors, politicians, academics and commentators – but these same people deliberately choose to ignore  avoidable mortality from war- or hegemony-imposed deprivation. Thus the Iraqi war dead in 2003-2011 from violence and deprivation total 2.7 million (my estimate) [7] or a similar 1.7 million (based on 0.5 million violent deaths as quoted by US Alliance expert Richard Kerbaj [12]). Accepting an expert intelligence estimate that violent deaths in the Afghan War (2001-2011) were 4 times fewer relative to avoidable deaths from deprivation than in Iraq, violent deaths plus avoidable deaths from deprivation  in Occupied Afghanistan have totalled 6.8 million [24-26].

Of course Iraq and Afghanistan were not the only countries murderously violated by the US in the 21st century. It was estimated in 2015 that 32 million Muslims had died from violence (5 million) and imposed deprivation (27 million) in 20 countries invaded by the US Alliance after the US Government’s 9/11 false flag atrocity that killed 3,000 people, mostly innocent Americans [27, 28].

In the post-1950  era US post-1950 Asian Wars (in all of which US lackey Australia participated) about 40 million Asians were killed  by violence and war-imposed deprivation, with the Vietnamese Holocaust and Vietnamese Genocide contributing 15 million lives to this carnage, and the Korean War  (Korean Holocaust and Korean Genocide) 5 million lives [7, 23, 29]. However the US was “policing” not just Asia  but also the rest of the world, with the other stand-out  atrocities of the post-WW2 American  Era being (deaths from violence and deprivation in brackets) the 1960s onwards Congo Holocaust and Congo Genocide (20 million) and the 1955-2018 Sudan  Holocaust and Sudan Genocide (15 million) [7]. American civil rights icon Dr Martin Luther King Jr., 4 April 1967: “The greatest purveyor of violence in the world: my own government. I cannot be silent” [30].

As outlined above, avoidable deaths from imposed deprivation are a major contributor to untimely deaths in countries subject to war, invasion, occupation, colonialism, neo-colonialism, sanctions, foreign hegemony and attendant dire and deadly poverty.  Avoidable deaths from deprivation totalled about 1,500 million in the post-1950 era with a major contributor to this carnage being about 1,000 million under-5 infant deaths [7]. In 2020 (pre-COVID-19 data) 7.4 million people died avoidably from deprivation on Spaceship Earth (5.3 million under-5 infant deaths) with America largely in charge of the flight deck [7]. My estimates for 2020  are in precise agreement with widely-reported estimates by UNICEF. 1950-2005 avoidable deaths from deprivation totalled 82 million in countries variously occupied by the US in the post-WW2 era, but it is clear that world-dominating  America  continues to have a disproportionally high  responsibility for the ongoing Global Avoidable Mortality Holocaust that presently kills 7.4 million people globally each year, mostly children [7]. One notes the obscene absurdity of the Trump-supporting Racist Religious Right Republicans (R4s)  fanatically asserting the “right to life” of fertilized ova but rejecting the “right to life” of the over 5 million infants who die avoidably each year largely due to the remorseless greed and deadly insecurity of the American Empire.

Even when America  has largely withdrawn  (from Occupied Iraq in 2011) or completely withdrawn (Occupied Afghanistan 2021) the US Alliance-imposed dying continues in these devastated countries. Thus 2020 (pre-COVID-19 data) under-5 infant mortality and excess mortality were  30,000 and 42,000, respectively,  in Iraq (population 40.2 million), and 76,000 and 106,000, respectively,  in Occupied Afghanistan (population 38.9 million), as compared to 3,100 and 4,300, respectively, in the UK (population 67.9 million). After the Iraqi parliament demanded that US Alliance forces leave Iraq, President Donald Trump warned that unless the Iraqis desisted with this demand he would seize their foreign currency reserves and destroy what was left of the Iraqi economy [31]. Similarly, after the defeated war criminal US Alliance left Afghanistan in 2021 the Americans seized the Afghan foreign currency reserves of about $10 billion and the US Alliance imposed further sanctions, both moves crippling what was left of the devastated Afghan economy [32].  Poverty kills.

A cowardly, genocidally racist and child-killing America makes “asymmetric war” on Humanity in 2 awful and deadly ways: (a) using high technology weapons against impoverished nations that typically lack an air force, navy or a defence industry, and (b) using sanctions to destroy the target nation economy. Thus, for just 1 of many examples,  the child-killing US has applied crippling sanctions against Cuba for  about 60 years but the Cubans have survived and indeed have one of the best medical systems in the Developing World. It can be readily estimated from the UN demographic data that possession of Cuban-style medical–related systems would have saved 36 million under-5 infant lives in US-dominated  and “free” Latin America and the Caribbean [7].

The horrendous avoidable mortality from deprivation in Occupied Iraq ( 2.9 million, 1990-2011) [7, 22, 25] and Occupied Afghanistan  (6.2 million, 2001-2021) [7, 25, 26] has occurred in gross violation of Articles 55 and 56 of the Fourth Geneva Convention (the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War) that unequivocally demand that an Occupier is obliged to provide its conquered Subjects with life-sustaining food and medical services “to the fullest extent of the means available to it” [3]. The obscenely rich countries of the US Alliance grossly failed in this in Occupied Iraq and Occupied Afghanistan  – all the responsible US Alliance politicians should be arraigned for intentional mass murder before the International Criminal Court.

It gets even worse. There  is something peculiarly awful about killing one’s  own kind and killing infants of one’s own kind, but that indeed is what Zionist-subverted America is doing. Thus it is estimated that each year 1.7 million Americans die preventably from “lifestyle choice” and “political choice” reasons, the breakdown (2017) including 21,000 avoidable under-5 year infant deaths. Since 9/11 about 1.7 million per year x 21 years = 36 million Americans have died preventably as defined above, with 0.4 million being preventably dying under-5 year old infants. As of 2020, 3.0 million Americans die each year and thus 57% of these deaths have been untimely, premature and preventable. It has been estimated that successive US Governments have committed $8 trillion to prosecuting genocidal wars this century, killing 32 million Muslims abroad through violence and deprivation rather than trying to save the lives of 36 million Americans at home [33-36].

It is set to get even worse still in the coming century. The US with 4.3% of the world’s population presently uses about 25% of the world’s resources each year in the context of a continuing global Carbon Economy. The world as a whole wants to catch up, notably China and India that each were responsible for about 25% of the world GDP  before  being devastated by imperialists (Westerners and Japanese in the case of China, and the British in the case of India) [37, 38]. However Professor Dabo Guan  (School of International Development, University of East Anglia, UK) (2016) has commented thus on inescapable limits to growth:  “For everyone in the world to have an American lifestyle, we would need seven planets, and three to live as Europeans” [39]. Presently we are operating at a 2-planet level of exploitation as evidenced by a species extinction rate that is 100- 10,000 times greater than normal [40, 41].

If the world is indeed seriously “tackling climate change” we would expect key greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution parameters to be decreasing but instead they are increasing at record high rates. Thus there is no decrease in our record greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution, gas, oil, and coal use, or cattle, cement, steel and iron ore production. We are surely doomed by remorseless inaction. There is no decrease in our presently peak global production of coal and methanogenic cattle. The atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (N2O), and methane (CH4) are remorselessly increasing, as are oil and  gas use.  Greenhouse gas (GHG) producing cement, steel, and iron ore production are all increasing. Humanity should be radically decreasing these terracidal activities but, political rhetoric aside, is damning the planet through  catastrophic global inaction. The biodiversity loss is increasing catastrophically with a species extinction rate (speciescide rate) that is 100-10,000 times greater than the normal background extinction rate. While the rate of deforestation has decreased 3-fold since 1980, and net re-afforestation of temperate forests is now occurring, the deforestation rate in tropical forests levelled out to an appalling 50 million hectares per decade over the last 2 decades. Unless something radical happens we are doomed, the planet is doomed, and Humanity and the Biosphere face decimation [42]. As the world’s largest economy neoliberal America is disproportionately involved in the destruction of the planetary environment that presently supports 8 billion people.

The key problem is that greedy rich countries, led by the US, ignore the huge damage-related cost of greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution, presently about $200 per tonne CO2-equivalent. However the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has estimated that the average global applied Carbon Price is merely $2 per tonne CO2-equivalent [43]. This resolute ignoring has generated an inescapable Carbon Debt for future generations that is presently $200-250 trillion and  increasing by $16 trillion annually [44, 45].

(4). American Lying. Lying occurs in 2 repugnant forms, lying by omission and lying by commission. Lying by omission is far, far worse than lying by commission because the latter at least admits the possibility of  public refutation and public debate,  subject, of course, in the West  to massive censorship  by US-beholden Mainstream media [46-48]. Famed anti-racist Jewish American journalist I.F. Stone (author of “The Hidden History of the Korean War” ) famously told his journalism  students: “Among all the things I’m going to tell you today about being a journalist, all you have to remember is two words: governments lie” [47, 48]. Brilliant American writer Gore Vidal stated: “Unlike most Americans who lie all the time, I hate lying. And here I am surrounded with these hills [in Hollywood] full of liars — some very talented… Yeah, [lying] about themselves, about their beliefs, about their histories. Degrees, from universities — this is piled up lies. Americans are not interested in the truth about anything. They assume everybody is lying because they go out and lie everyday about the automobile they are trying to sell you…This is a country of hoax. P.T. Barnum is the god of this republic, which is no longer a republic alas. It is an oligarchy and a rather vicious one” [47, 48]. Lying subverts science-based rational risk management that successively involves (a) accurate information, (b) scientific analysis based on critical testing of potentially falsifiable hypotheses, and (c) science-informed systemic change to minimize harm when dangerous events inevitably occur. In stark contrast is anti-science spin that is embraced publicly by all US governments and successively involves (a) lying, censorship, slies or spin-based untruths, and intimidation, (b) selective use of asserted facts to support a partisan position, and (c) blame and shame that keeps dangerous systems in place and prevents crucial reportage. All US governments lie and Donald Trump (who told 30,000 lies during  his Administration) was merely the most unsophisticated, obvious and appallingly blatant liar [49, 50].

However as cogently analysed by Professors Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky in “Manufacturing Consent”, mendacious US Mainstream media serve the interests of the US Establishment and US governments [51]. Julian Assange (World and Australian hero and the World’s most famous journalist): “If wars can be started by lies, peace can be started by truth”, “It is impossible to correct abuses unless we know that they’re going on”, and “You have to start with the truth. The truth is the only way that we can get anywhere. Because any decision-making that is based upon lies or ignorance can’t lead to a good conclusion” [47, 48].

(5). America violates, subverts, dirties and acutely threatens Australia.

(i). Australia was in all post-1950 US Asian wars. As a craven US lackey Australia has participated in all post-1950 US Asian wars, atrocities associated with 40 million Asian deaths from violence and war-imposed deprivation [7, 52]. Australian politicians have grossly violated the Fourth Geneva Convention in these wars by resolutely refusing to meet their life-preserving obligations to the Occupied Subjects. Australia’s international reputation has been trashed by these racist, war criminal,  and genocidal involvements [52].

(ii). AUKUS and Australian violation of all Indo-Pacific countries. Australia and the US removed New Zealand from  ANZUS (Australia, New Zealand and US) Treaty over New Zealand’s principled and civilized objection to nuclear-armed warships in its waters. The ANZUS Treaty was replaced by the AUKUS (Australia, UK and US) Treaty by the racist, warmongering and US lackey Morrison Coalition Government in 2021. Australia borders on both the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean, but the serial war criminal UK and US  have no legitimate reason to be in these waters. In the last 80 years (i.e. in living memory) as a UK or US lackey  Australia has violated every Indo-Pacific country, variously through  war, military occupation, overt or covert regime change [52], and as being among world leaders in 16  areas of climate criminality [41, 42].  Thus, for example, Australia with 0.3% of the world’s population has  an annual Domestic plus Exported greenhouse gas (GHG) pollution that is 5.4% of the world’s total. Nuclear weapons and climate change are the 2 key existential threats to Humanity and the Biosphere [53], this leading eminent theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking  to declare: “We see great peril if governments and societies do not take action NOW [my emphasis] to render nuclear weapons obsolete and to prevent further climate change” [54]. Australia has been intimately connected with UK nuclear terrorism (crucially involved in testing nuclear weapons and rocket delivery systems) and US nuclear terrorism (a key role in key electronic spying, submarine communications, and the hosting of nuclear-armed US warships and now B52 bombers ).

(iii). Australian involvement in US-effected coups.  Further to (ii), variously as US and UK lackeys Australians have been involved in the  covert removal of 8 governments, namely Laos (1960), Indonesia (1965), Cambodia (1970), Chile (1973), Australia (1975), Australia (2010), and Fiji (1987, 2000) (the latter 3 coups also involving Apartheid Israel). It is possible that Australians were involved with Apartheid Israel and the US in anti-government  riots in the Solomon Islands and the singular departure from politics of anti-nuclear New Zealand PM David Lange [52].

(iv). US lackey Australia’s deadly covert operations in neighbouring Indonesia. The most deadly Australia-complicit US engineered coup was that in Australia’s huge neighbour Indonesia in 1965 [55-57]. Australia and the US had been involved in backing Indonesia Islamist rebels in the 1960s [13], noting that such extremists remain a potent force against Indonesia’s secular democracy today, notably in Aceh. Australia Human Rights Watch (2017): “Starting in October 1965, Indonesian army officials, led by then-Major General Suharto, oversaw a campaign of mass killings targeting Communist Party members and giving free rein to a mix of soldiers and local militias to kill anyone they considered a communist. Over the next few months into 1966, at least 500,000 people were killed (the total may be as high as 1 million)” [55]. Harold Holt (the Australian Prime Minister who was later to disappear as PM while swimming in the sea) speaking  to the Australian-American Association at the River Club in New York in support of the 1965 “anti-communist coup” in Indonesia (1966): “With 500,000 to 1 million Communist sympathisers knocked off, I think it is safe to assume a reorientation has taken place”  [56]. In 1969 I was working in New York and initially naively bought the New York Times (NYT) because of its size, global coverage, and its motto “All the news that’s fit to print” . However I quickly discovered that the NYT was extremely inaccurate when reporting Australia and its neighbours. I stopped buying  the NYT when it praised genocidal mass murderer Suharto as a person with “impeccable anti-communist credentials” (I had met Chinese Indonesians who had escaped the atrocity). Only after reading “Manufacturing Consent. The Political Economy of the Mass Media” by Professors Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky [51] did I recognize the NYT presstitutes as remorselessly mendacious agents of the American political Establishment, and the consequent deep irony of the NYT motto. Avoidable deaths of Indonesians from deprivation in the violent, corrupt and US- and Australia-backed Suharto dictatorship (1965-1999) totalled 33 million [7]. Australia was recently caught out bugging  the Indonesian president and his wife as well as bugging the Timor L’Este Cabinet for the benefit of Australian corporate oil and gas interests (the whistleblower involved in the latter case and his eminent lawyer have been outrageously persecuted by the Australian Government). Australia and the US approved the Indonesian takeover of  Timor L’Este that resulted in 200,000 deaths, one third of the population (on a per capita basis equivalent to the mass murder of one third of Jews in the WW2 Jewish Holocaust) [7].

 (v). The US Murdoch media empire dominates Australia. About 70% of Australia’s daily newspaper readership has been captured by the pro-war, anti-science, mendacious and racist  US Murdoch media empire which dominates the Australian Mainstream media. Former Australian Coalition PM Malcolm Turnbull: “It [6 January 2021] was nothing less than an attempted coup, promoted and encouraged by the president himself and his media allies like Murdoch who, through Fox News, has probably done more damage to US democracy than any other individual … By creating and exploiting a market for crazy conspiracy theories untethered from the facts, let alone science, Murdoch has done Putin’s work – better than any Russian intelligence agency could ever imagine possible. That is why I supported the former prime minister Kevin Rudd’s call for a royal commission into the Murdoch media, which does not operate like a conventional news organisation but rather like a political party, pushing its own agendas, running vendettas against its critics and covering up for its friends. In April I reinforced these points in an interview with CNN’s Brian Stelter, as I had to the Australian Senate’s inquiry into media diversity. Of all the endorsements, none was more significant than that of James Clapper, the former US director of national intelligence, who said Fox News was “a megaphone for conspiracies and falsehoods”. We have to face the uncomfortable fact that the systematic partisan lying and misinformation from the media, both mainstream and social – what Clapper calls the “truth deficit” – has done enormous damage to liberal democracies, and none more so than the US itself” [58]. Anti-science Murdoch empire climate change denialism enabled Australia to become the worst country in the world for climate change policy [59, 60]. Even Australia’s vastly better Mainstream media, The Guardian, the taxpayer-funded SBS (Special Broadcasting Service) and the ABC (the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Australia’s equivalent of the UK BBC) are perforce influenced by relentless pressure on public conversations from the massive and mendacious Murdoch media empire. Like other Western democracies Australia has become a kleptocracy, plutocracy, Murdochracy, corporatocracy, lobbyocracy and dollarocracy in which Big Money purchases people, parties, policies, public perception of reality, votes, more power, and more private profit. While quality Australian Mainstream media eschew lying by commission, there is massive lying by omission by US and US-beholden Australian Mainstream journalist, editor, politician, academic and commentariat presstitutes. Of course lying by omission is far, far worse than lying by commission because the latter at least permits public refutation and public debate (subject to Mainstream media gatekeepers, of course).

(vi). America spies on, subverts, deceives and betrays Australia.   The joint US-Australia electronic  spying facility at Pine Gap in Central Asia is crucial for US nuclear strategy and for targeting deadly and war criminal drone attacks from Africa to Central Asia. It is also able spy on Australians. Indeed the Australian Government passed legislation mandating collection of metadata on all Australians i.e. who they talk to but not what they say (Australian Intelligence can obtain the latter information by judicial order or simply do it given the bipartisan Lib-Lab carte blanche for Intelligence misbehaviour in Australia). After the post-WW2 formation  of ASIO (Australia’s domestic spying equivalent of the UK MI5), ASIS (Australia’s equivalent of the UK MI6 non-domestic spying agency), and the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing club, Australian Intelligence embarked on decades of deceiving the public, deceiving elected politicians, and keeping the Labor Party from being elected for 2 decades [12, 13]. After the election of the reformist Whitlam Government, Prime Minister Whitlam fatally angered the US CIA and its traitorous Australian Intelligence lackeys by demanding  information on covert ASIS operations against the democratically-elected Allende Government in Chile and the function of Pine Gap. The Labor Party learned the hard lesson from the subsequent UK- and US-backed dismissal of the Whitlam Government – “all the way with the USA” if you want any chance of being elected.

Under Queen Elizabeth I agents of a foreign power were tortured and then subject to hanging, drawing and decapitation, with heads stuck on a pike for all to see as a good warning for the public. Just after WW2 Lord Haw Haw (William Joyce) was hanged by the British for broadcasting from Germany. In Australia under Queen Elizabeth II it is unofficially mandatory for politicians, public servants and journalists to kow tow to the Zionist-subverted US and UK and to Australia-violating Apartheid Israel and its mendacious and traitorous  Australian agents. Indeed the US shares raw bulk intelligence acquired via the Five Eyes and elsewhere with Apartheid Israel [14]. US- and UK-backed Apartheid Israel and its traitorous agents have an appalling public record of subverting, deceiving and abusing Australians and Australian institutions [61, 62]. Race-based and false Zionist and IHRA anti-Semitism terminology ignores and thus promotes genocidal Zionist anti-Arab anti-Semitism (against Arabs and Muslims) and verbal Zionist anti-Jewish anti-Semitism (against anti-racist Jews). The IHRA and IHRA-backed Zionists are thus comprehensively the worst anti-Semites in the world today. In June 2018 Australia’s US lackey Liberal Party-National Party Coalition Government and its US lackey Labor Opposition passed draconian, civil rights-violating espionage and foreign influence legislation that is implicitly aimed squarely at China, a country that is Australia’s biggest trading partner and that denies such illicit activity. However US lackey Mainstream Australia utterly ignores the huge actuality of perversion and subversion of Australia by the US, the UK, Zionists and Apartheid Israel [61, 62].

(vii). UK- , US-, and Zionist-backed coups and other subversive interventions in Australia. In 1932 Sir Phillip Game, governor of New South Wales (NSW),  bowed to the demands of the British bankers (these including the racist Zionist Rothschilds who had successfully secured UK support for the genocidal Zionist colonization and ethnic cleansing of Palestine) and removed the democratically elected Labor government of NSW lead by Premier Jack Lang. In the1950s and 1960s US- and UK-beholden Australian Intelligence lied to people,  politicians and governments, and ensured that the Labor Party was unelected for 2 decades. A right-wing but reformist Labor leader, PM Gough Whitlam (in office 1972-1975), excited the ire of Australia’s American masters and was removed in a US-, UK- and British Royal Family-complicit coup on 11 November 1975. His replacement as PM (1975-1983), Coalition leader Malcolm Fraser, had a change of heart in old age, stating in 2010 that “Slavish devotion to the US is foreign policy folly” [63].  Labor was returned to power under  right-wing Labor leader and “US asset” Bob Hawke who had successfully stopped trade union demonstrations against the 1975 coup. As with Malcolm Fraser, Bob Hawke, after a lifetime of supporting Zionism and Zionist-subverted America, had a change of heart shortly before he died, specifically making some noises of sympathy for the horribly violated Palestinians. Right-wing Labor leader  Paul Keating succeeded Hawke as a Labor PM in  1991-1996. In recent years in old age he has been outspoken in his criticism of US-led warmongering over China and of US-beholden Australian Intelligence: “When the security agencies are running foreign policy, the nutters are in charge. They’ve lost their strategic bearings, these organisations… gone berko [re Chinese influence]” [64]. Paul Keating was defeated in 1996, but in the 2004 elections the US Ambassador Schieffer  publicly intervened when the Labor Leader of the Labor Opposition, Mark Latham, promised to bring Australian soldiers back from the illegal Iraq War “by Christmas”. Latham lost.

In 2007 Kevin Rudd was elected Labor PM but was removed by a US-approved, mining corporation-backed and pro-Zionist-led coup (he had offended the Zionists by oh so sadly slapping the Israelis on the wrist for forging Australian passports and kidnapping Australians in international waters). His fervently pro-Zionist and pro-US successor as PM, Julia Gillard, effectively kept Labor out of power for a decade because of the coup, and also permitted thousands of child-killing US Marines to be stationed on Australian soil (the first such stationing of foreign forces in Australia outside of WW2). In 2022 Anthony Albanese was elected as Labor PM after a decade of incompetent and corrupt government by the fervently pro-Zionist and pro-US Coalition. Fervently pro-Zionist and pro-US Albanese has quickly shown his true colours by disobeying Labor party policy in  failing to recognize the state of Palestine  and failing to ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) [65- 68]. Indeed while the Coalition merely Abstained from the annual UNGA Anti-Nazi Resolution in 2021, under Labor Australia shockingly joined the US, Ukraine and other US-allied countries in voting No to the resolution in 2022 [69, 70]. If it walks like a  duck and quacks like a duck…

(viii). Craven submission to American militarism makes Australia complicit in nuclear terrorism and makes Australia a prime nuclear target. The AUKUS Alliance arrangement for Australia to buy 6 nuclear-powered submarines for $200 billion for delivery in the 2040s locks Australia long term into US warmongering and nuclear terrorism  and condemns hundreds of thousands of Australians (notably Indigenous Australians) to premature death from imposed poverty due to government  fiscal perversion. The anti-China and anti-Russia (who is next?) AUKUS Alliance makes Australia a primary nuclear target – in any carefully escalating nuclear exchange from tactical nuclear weapons (e.g. a possibility in the Ukraine War) to all out nuclear war, Australian cities would be destroyed well before  any crucial US military  targets (e.g. Guam) or any US cities. Although ratifying the TPNW is Labor Party policy, the cowardly Albanese Labor Government refused to act because such ratification would preclude Australia from any support for a nuclear-armed US, UK, France and Apartheid Israel. The United Nations Treaty on Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) crucially lists prohibited activities: “Article 1 Prohibitions.(1). Each State Party undertakes never under any circumstances to (a). Develop, test, produce, manufacture, otherwise acquire, possess or stockpile nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices… (e). Assist, encourage or induce, in any way, anyone to engage in any activity prohibited to a State Party under this Treaty” [65-69].

(ix). Zionist subversion of IHRA member Australia is a product of blind Australian fealty to Zionist-subverted America and soils Australia. All the members of the Anglosphere Five Eyes intelligence sharing club (the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) are based on the genocide of Indigenous people. Small wonder then that these countries are fervent supporters of the settler colonialism-based, nuclear terrorist, racist Zionist-run, genocidally racist, anti-Jewish  anti-Semitic, anti-Arab anti-Semitic, grossly human rights–abusing, child-abusing, mother-abusing, women-abusing, democracy-by-genocide Apartheid Israel. Indeed an Israeli Ambassador to Australia Naftali Tamir in advocating closer Australian-Israel ties (2006): “We are in Asia without the characteristics of Asians. We don’t have yellow skin and slanted eyes. Asia is basically the yellow race. Australia and Israel are not – we are basically the white race” [71]. In 1937, Winston Churchill, hero of the Five Eyes Club for his WW2 anti-Nazism leadership, told the pre-WW2 UK Palestine Royal Commission: “I do not admit for instance, that a great wrong has been done to the Red Indians of America or the black people of Australia. I do not admit that a wrong has been done to these people by the fact that a stronger race, a higher-grade race, a more worldly wise race to put it that way, has come in and taken their place” [71].

The US became increasingly Zionist-dominated since Israeli acquisition of nuclear weapons by the middle 1960s. Presently one third of President Joe Biden’s Cabinet are Jewish Zionists, and the remainder are  a fervent Christian Zionists, noting that Jews are only 2% of the US population [72]. Indeed anti-racist Jewish American Philip Weiss (2021): “Surveys consistently show that 20 percent of young Jews don’t believe in a Jewish state; even the American Jewish Committee says so. Fully a quarter of all Jews say that Israel is an apartheid state, but the number goes up to 38 percent of those under 40”  [73]. Philip Weiss commenting on the election of the new extreme right-wing,  fascist and genocidally racist Netanyahu Government in Apartheid Israel (2022): “The American Jewish war over Zionism can begin … Zionism has caused nightmares and heartache and misery for Palestinians for decades, but as the media consultant, and Mondoweiss contributor, Ghousoon Bisharat said to me in Haifa, Ben-Gvir is not our problem, he is the Jews’ problem. And now he is the American Jews’ problem. Finally American Jews will see what Zionism has done to us, corrupted almost every Jewish institution with racism, turned Jewish leaders into apologists for persecution and massacres. “You must explain to me how the most accomplished most highly educated most liberal group in America has embraced apartheid,” John Mearsheimer said to me years ago… They are terrified of how Ben-Gvir will put the wind in our sails, terrified that groups they consider marginal, Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow, will spring to the leadership of the young. They are right to be terrified. The war over Zionism inside American Jewish life has begun” [74].

Notwithstanding US, Israeli and Zionist violation of Australians and Australian institutions, the Coalition and the Labor Party are fervent supporters of US- and UK-backed Apartheid Israel and hence of the evil crime of Apartheid. Indeed the Coalition and Labor support the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) of which Australia and 34 other European countries are members. Possibly because of the ongoing Global Avoidable Mortality Holocaust (7.4 million avoidable deaths from deprivation annually, overwhelmingly in the Global South) [7 ] the racist IHRA is an exclusively European club. Of the 35 members of the IHRA, (i) all are European, (ii) the 5 located outside Europe (Argentina, Australia, ,Canada, Apartheid Israel, and the US) were all created based on the genocide of the Indigenous People, (iii) 9 members were part of the genocidal WW2 Nazi Germany Alliance, (iv) 4 are nuclear terrorist states, (v) 28 belong to the 30-member nuclear-armed NATO that accepts  mass incineration of billions of men, women and children as an acceptable military strategy, (vi) 14 were notably involved in the brutal conquest and genocide of Indigenous non-European people over 5 centuries, (vii) ) only 2 (Austria and Ireland) have had the moral decency to sign and ratify the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), and (viii) all but 3 shockingly voted No to the annual  UNGA Anti-Nazi Resolution in 2022 that  condemns Nazism, neo-Nazism and related racist obscenities. The IHRA Definition of anti-Semitism is false and defamatory of anti-racist  Jewish and non-Jewish critics of Israeli apartheid. The IHRA Definition  of antisemitism is anti-Jewish anti-Semitic and anti-Arab anti-Semitic (by falsely defaming anti-racist Jews, Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims  opposed to Israeli apartheid and the ongoing Palestinian Genocide), holocaust denying (by ignoring all WW2 holocausts other than the WW2 Jewish Holocaust, and indeed of 70 other genocide and holocaust atrocities including 30 involving Australia), and has been condemned by scholars around the world and by over 40 anti-racist Jewish organizations [70, 74, 75].

(x). Locked in support to US militarism and militarist fiscal perversion  contributes to 100,000 preventable Australian deaths annually. About 100,000 Australians die preventably each year  from “lifestyle choice” and “political choice” reasons (from “obesity” (24,000)  to “homicide” (200)), this carnage totalling 2.1 million since 9/11 [35]. Australia was recently number one in the world for median per capita wealth. However poverty  kills, and presently about 100,000 Australians die preventably each year from life-style choice and political choice reasons. Of these an estimated  23,000 die from poverty [35]. As a US lackey Australia spends about A$30 billion annually on “defense”, and plans to spend  about A$40 billion annually. Australia has participated in all post-1950 US Asian Wars, atrocities associated with 40 million Asian deaths from violence and war-imposed deprivation. In contrast, WW1 took 40 million lives and WW2 about 90 million lives  [7]. US lackey Australia has spent perhaps about A$200 billion on helping America kill 40 million Asians this century instead of trying to prevent over 2 million premature Australian deaths at home. Australia recently scrapped a A$90 billion deal to quickly acquire state-of-the art conventional French submarines (with the notional option  of nuclear power using low-enriched nuclear fuel) in favour of committing A$200 billion on out-dated US or UK nuclear-powered submarines for delivery in the 2040s and fuelled by highly-enriched nuclear fuel, with this also raising issues of nuclear proliferation [68]. This bipartisan-supported perversion will lock Australia into US and UK militarism and nuclear terrorism, and the fiscal perversion will contribute  to millions of preventable Australian deaths in coming decades. This is compounded by fervent Australian support for nuclear Apartheid Israel that threatens  the world with 100 nuclear weapons, including  such genocidal instruments located on 6 Germany-supplied submarines [53, 77]

(xi). Australia is complicit in horrendous UK and US war crimes, notably in Iraq and Afghanistan. Australia has been rocked by the release of a heavily redacted report about the killing of 39 unarmed Afghan civilians or prisoners by some 25 elite  Australian Special Air Services (SAS)  soldiers. Any prosecutions will take years and will violate the scientific  risk management principle of truth and systemic change rather than knee-jerk blame and shame [78]. There is already huge Australian government and media censorship and lying over these present war crimes, 2 centuries of genocidal war crimes, and continuing war crimes from the over 2 century and ongoing Aboriginal  Genocide to the ongoing US-imposed Afghan Genocide [27, 78]. Variously as a UK or US lackey Australia has invaded 85 countries with 30 of these violations being genocidal [79].  Unfortunately the Australian Federal Court has found that there is no law against genocide in Australia [80].

 (xii). Blind support for the US has created a contemptible, reality-ignoring, “look-the-other-way” Australian national culture. The US domination of Australia’s Mainstream media and the major parties (the Liberal Party-National Party Coalition and the Labor Party) means that there is a conservative, US-beholden and Zionist-beholden public narrative. Any deviation from the US line (e.g. its present fervent Sinophobia) raises public suspicion of “treason” and “disloyalty”. Any deviation from the Zionist narrative is furiously attacked as “antisemitism” – indeed anti-racist Jews critical of Apartheid Israel are defamed as anti-Semites and as “self-hating Jews”. To give a contemporary example,  the war criminal Russian invasion and occupation of part of Ukraine is rightly condemned in Australia but the Australian Mainstream resolutely ignores the current genocidal Saudi Coalition invasion and devastation of starving Yemen, the current US occupation of other countries (Somalia, Diego Garcia, Iraq, and Syria, plus 800 US bases in 70 countries), and the current Apartheid Israeli occupation of Palestine, part of Syria and part of Lebanon. Indeed while the Russian invasion is rightly condemned, there is utter silence over 8 decades of US invasion of 52 countries and Apartheid Israeli  invasion of 13 countries [7]. Zionist-subverted and US-beholden Australian Mainstream journalist, editor, politician, academic and commentariat presstitutes lie by omission on an enormous scale [46-51].  The ongoing Aboriginal Genocide and Ethnocide (2 million deaths from violence and deprivation since1788; about 600 languages and dialects rendered extinct) [81] would be  utterly ignored by the Mainstream but for insistent public protests by Indigenous Australians. However very few Australians are aware of the Australia-complicit 1942-1945 WW2 Bengali Holocaust (WW2 Indian Holocaust, WW2 Bengal Famine) in which the British with Australian complicity deliberately starved 6-7 million Indians to death for strategic reasons  in Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Odisha – Australia was complicit through denying its starving ally India food from its huge wartime grain  stocks [7, 23, 29, 37, 38].  Australians barely mentioning such Australia-complicit atrocities have been ferociously attacked and sidelined, as exampled by the outrageous treatment of (now former) ABC journalist Yassmin Abdel-Magied for merely 7 words on her Facebook page: “Lest we forget (Manus, Nauru, Syria, Palestine)” [82]. World hero and the world’s most famous journalist, Australian Julian Assange,  has been imprisoned for 10 years and is facing death in a  US prison for publishing  evidence of US war crimes – while the war criminals go unpunished.

(xiii). US lies and  terror hysteria impacting Australian civil liberties. The US Government’s  9/11false flag atrocity (3,000 mostly innocent American victims) led to the genocidal US War on Terror and (as estimated in 2015) 32 million Muslim deaths in 20 US Alliance-invaded countries from violence (5 million) and imposed deprivation (27 million) [27, 28]. However the accompanying  terror hysteria led to a massive erosion of civil liberties in Western countries , including  Australia (zero Islamist terrorism victims in Australia before 2014 and 4 since). In short, since 9-11 Australia has been gripped by US- and Zionist-promoted terror hysteria, Islamophobia, xenophobia and warmongering  jingoism.  Armed with anonymous  advice from what is oxymoronically called Australian Intelligence, successive conservative Australian Governments have introduced scores of anti-terror laws and secrecy laws  that variously impact on civil liberties and free speech. Draconian anti-terror laws in Australia now allow for lengthy detention without charge or trial, and custodial  punishment of up to life imprisonment for reading, thinking and supporting things successive neo-Nazi Australian governments do not like [83-85].  Whistle blowers, including journalists,  revealing Australian government crimes have been raided, persecuted, and variously arraigned and tried in secret trials [83, 84, 86]. Thus, for example, Witness J is a former Australian intelligence officer who was subject to a secret trial and secret imprisonment in 2018, for revealing Australian government crimes [87]. Witness K was imprisoned and his eminent lawyer persecuted over revelations about the Australian Government bugging of the Timor L’Este Government [88]. Australian journalists for major news organizations were raided and threatened for truth-telling [83, 85].

Australian hero, world hero, truth teller, and  the world’s most famous journalist,  Julian Assange, is a touchstone for national decency –  but Australia, the UK and the US  fail the test. The UK has imprisoned  Julian Assange for 3 years without trial and seeks to extradite him to the US where he faces death in prison for his extraordinary truth-telling. Julian Assange was previously imprisoned in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London for 7 years. He has a wife and 2 young children. He has never been tried for any crime other than trying to escape extradition to the US. Successive Coalition governments have supported the vicious UK and US position. Leading figures of the Australian Labor government make spin-based noises that his case “has gone on for too long” but cowardly refuse to publicly demand Julian Assange’s  freedom and the return to Australia of Australia’s and the world’s most famous journalist. Indeed various Labor leaders have dishonestly stated or implied that Julian Assange was guilty of offences, thus violating the principle of “innocent until proven guilty” [89]. While Julian Assange is being slowly killed by endless imprisonment without trial for revealing US war crimes by violating the sanctum of US secrets,  I am free (albeit rendered largely invisible in Australia) to continue over 2 decades of estimating and reporting the horrendous human deaths associated with US Alliance war crimes, as indeed acknowledged by Julian Assange’s dedicated and indefatigable father John Shipton  [90, 91]. The post-9/11 US and US Alliance terror hysteria has included massive and obsessional government “secrecy for national security reasons”. The ironic reality is that “secrecy” is lying by omission (far, far worse that repugnant lying by commission), and that lying sabotages rational risk management that is crucial for societal  security.

For a decade a deeply racist, human rights-abusing and neo-Nazi Australia has been highly abusively imprisoning thousands of boat-borne refugees – men, women and children – without charge or trial in remote and off-shore concentration camps, with US-inspired “terrorism threat” being one of various excuses. Indeed the world got to hear of this in 2021 when world champion tennis player Novak Djokovic had his visa rescinded and this great athlete  was imprisoned by Coalition politician nobodies in a  “detention facility” holding boat-borne refugees, including  one who had been held thus for 9 years, this commencing when he was a child. Words fail to describe the evil of successive Coalition and Labor Australian Governments who did this to children, and indeed continue to do this.

(xiv). Genocidal  US, US Alliance and Australia need de-Nazification.  Zionist- and US-perverted Australia urgently needs (a) war crimes trials of US lackey politicians, (b) massive demilitarization with the ADF expanded for self-defence and national and regional deployment for “natural” emergencies (floods, fires, storms, tsunamis), (c) cessation of violation of its neighbours, (d) rejection of war and establishment of popular and parliamentary oversight over potential armed conflict, (e ) ratification of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), and (f) consequent  dissociation from the nuclear-armed and warmongering Quad (Japan, nuclear-armed India, Australia and the nuclear-armed  US),  AUKUS, and the nuclear terrorist, serial war criminal and genocidally racist US and UK.

Of course all war crimes should be properly investigated and those responsible arraigned. Presently 39 alleged unlawful killings of Afghans by Australian soldiers are being investigated. However 6 million Afghans have been passively murdered by the US Coalition over the last 2 decades through Occupier non-provision to the conquered Afghans of life-sustaining food and medical services that must be provided by the Occupier “to the fullest extent of the means available to it” according to Articles  55 and 56 of the Fourth Geneva Convention. This immense war crime by US Coalition politicians is 6,000,000/39 = 154,000 times worse than the alleged 39 unlawful killings by Australian soldiers. I have repeatedly urged that before any Australian soldiers are indicted for war crimes in Afghanistan the politicians  who sent them there should be indicted for grossly violating the Fourth Geneva Convention [78, 93]. Several elite Australian veterans have privately strongly agreed with me.  Indeed John Valder, former federal president of the conservative Liberal Party (2004): “Bush, Blair, and Howard, as leaders of the three members of the coalition of the willing, inflicted enormous suffering on the people of Iraq. And, as such, they are criminals. I believe the only deterrent to a repetition of the Iraq situation is punishment in some form as war criminals” [94]. Likewise Nobel laureate and anti-racist Jewish British writer Harold Pinter in relation to the war criminal Iraq War (2005): “We have brought torture, cluster bombs, depleted uranium, innumerable acts of random murder, misery, degradation and death to the Iraqi people and call it ‘bringing freedom and democracy to the Middle East’. How many people do you have to kill before you qualify to be described as a mass murderer and a war criminal? One hundred thousand? More than enough, I would have thought. Therefore it is just that Bush and Blair be arraigned before the International Criminal Court of Justice” [95]. I would answer:  “2.7 million? More than enough, I would have thought”.

(5). Leading Australian foreign policy commentators  and experts, including several former PMs, call for an end to Australia’s craven, cowardly and dangerous subservience to America.

Below is an alphabetically-ordered  selection of expert Australian opinions on the serious dangers of being associated with the US Alliance and the AUKUS Alliance.

Dr Alison Broinowski (Australian foreign policy expert) (2015): “Foreign independence.  Australia’s deferential treatment of the US, about which Alan Ramsey complains, has not only gone on too long, it has become more servile (“Yes, Mr President”, March 28-29). Malcolm Fraser called for it to end in his last book, Dangerous Allies, saying that the greatest threat to Australia’s security is from our ally. James Curran will say it again in May, and I said it in my own Howard’s War (2003) and Allied and Addicted (2007). Maybe at last the time has come for independence in foreign and defence policy” [96].

Professor James Curran (Professor of Modern History, Sydney University, author of “Australia’s China Odyssey. From euphoria to fear”) (2021): “At what cost is Australia attempting to strengthen its deterrence of China?… AUKUS represents the death knell for strategic ambiguity in Australian foreign policy. Although Canberra does have a record of shrewd alliance management in the past—of roaring loud in allied solidarity but committing the minimum muscle up front, as in the case of Iraq 2003 when Australian special forces were pulled back after the initial assault on Baghdad—it is fanciful to suggest that in any future military conflict with China, especially over Taiwan, the United States will not expect Australia to play a role in the battle. Will a future Australian government of either political persuasion be able to resist U.S. pressure to be part of any such conflict? History suggests not. Australia, as we are constantly reminded in the speeches, has been by the U.S.’s side at every major conflict since the First World War” [97].

Malcolm Fraser (former Coalition PM, 1975-1983) (2010): “Slavish devotion to the US a foreign policy folly for Australia… To participate in a conflict with China is totally contrary to our interests. Let me make one thing clear at the outset. I am in favour of the ANZUS treaty but I am well aware of its limitations… But in the middle of the 1950s, only a year or two after the ANZUS treaty had been signed, then Australian prime minister Robert Menzies told the US that if it went to war with China over Taiwan, Australia would not be part of it” [63].

Professor Jenny Hocking (Monash) and Peter Cronau (2022): “The ‘Palace Letters’ case opened the door to scrutiny of the role of the Monarch in matters of governance, by rejecting the claims of ‘royal secrecy’ over this immensely significant correspondence…  As a result, only now can be seen clearly the interventionist role of Queen Elizabeth and of Charles, now King of Australia, in enabling and encouraging the governor-general in his removal of the elected Whitlam government [the US-UK Coup in 1975]. The implications of this for Australia’s future should be obvious” [98].

Paul Keating (former Labor PM) (2001): “This [2001] election may well decide whether we have an Australian century in the 21st century or an American century, as America resists multilateralism and a multipolar world and tries to soak up its allies. The conservatives, you can bet on this, will forelock tug their way to Washington, and our future as an independent nation, as a republic in Asia, in our neighbourhood, will be lost” [99].

John Pilger (famed expatriate Australia journalist and author) (2014):  “The Americans and British worked together. In 1975, Whitlam discovered that Britain’s MI6 was operating against his government. “The Brits were actually decoding secret messages coming into my foreign affairs office,” he said later. One of his ministers, Clyde Cameron, told me, “We knew MI6 was bugging cabinet meetings for the Americans.” In the 1980s, senior CIA officers revealed that the “Whitlam problem” had been discussed “with urgency” by the CIA’s director, William Colby, and the head of MI6, Sir Maurice Oldfield. A deputy director of the CIA said: “Kerr did what he was told to do.” On 10 November 1975, Whitlam was shown a top-secret telex message sourced to Theodore Shackley, the notorious head of the CIA’s East Asia division, who had helped run the coup against Salvador Allende in Chile two years earlier. Shackley’s message was read to Whitlam. It said that the prime minister of Australia was a security risk in his own country. The day before, Kerr had visited the headquarters of the Defence Signals Directorate, Australia’s NSA, where he was briefed on the “security crisis”. On 11 November – the day Whitlam was to inform parliament about the secret CIA presence in Australia – he was summoned by Kerr. Invoking archaic vice-regal “reserve powers”, Kerr sacked the democratically elected prime minister. The “Whitlam problem” was solved, and Australian politics never recovered, nor the nation its true independence” [100].

Alan Ramsey (eminent Australian political journalist), (2015): “Australia’s deferential treatment of the United States has gone on too long… What did our Parliament say to all this? Nothing. Any debate in either the House or the Senate? No. Any individual MP ask a question of the Parliament as to what was going on? No. For the first time in the 225 years of Australia’s white settlement, excluding World War II, we have opened our doors to foreign troops to be based here [c/- Labor PM Julia Gillard] – and they are based here, despite what the politicians and the military say – and almost nobody says boo. Malcolm Fraser got angry and wrote about it in a book. Still nobody said anything, least of all Canberra. Professor Stuart Rees (founder of the Sydney Peace Prize, author of “Cruelty or Humanity”)(2021): “Unless you think that force of arms gives security and that revival of alliances with far away governments makes sense, the decision to own and operate United States nuclear submarines should be judged a dangerous nonsense. There are four reasons for making this claim. [1] Foreign policy in search of an enemy — in this case China — looks like a guarantee of conflict if not war. Polarisation with little room for dialogue only benefits the arms industry, United States corporations, and those in the US, Britain, Australia and China who think a taste for militarism and masculinity will show the benefits of violence. Capacity to learn from the devastation of the past is once again shoved aside… [2] A second reason concerns Australia’s geography: as though days of empire must not be forgotten, a country located in South East Asia and the Pacific chooses an alliance with elderly friends in Washington and London… [3]  A third reason concerns the continued use of military might as the way to address conflicts… [4] Indifference to contracts and derision about trust is a fourth and final reason for disdain about the nuclear submarine alliance” [102].

Jordon Steele-John (Greens Senator, Greens Peace spokesperson) (2021): “The Greens are committed to reducing defence spending, this will make $312 billion available over the next decade for essential services our community needs. We can build 1 million homes, ending homelessness. We could improve ventilation in schools, making our kids safe. We could get dental and mental health into Medicare. We could increase income support so no one in the country needs to live in poverty. Our Australian Greens Towards Peace plan will renegotiate our alliance with the United States, close all foreign military bases in Australia, reduce defence spending and prioritise peaceful efforts in our region to tackle the climate crisis… [Re Afghanistan] We must never again participate in a colonial war of aggression. Our goal must always be peace. Our community does not want our future to be at the behest of the United States of America. The Australian Greens are committed to re-negotiating the ANZUS alliance, we will not proceed with the AUKUS nuclear-powered submarine deal, and we will close all foreign military bases across Australia” [103].

Dr Gideon Polya taught science students at La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia over 4 decades. He published some 130 works in a 5 decade scientific career, notably a huge pharmacological reference text “Biochemical Targets of Plant Bioactive Compounds”. He has also published “Body Count. Global avoidable mortality since 1950” (2007, 2022) and “Jane Austen and the Black Hole of British History” (1998, 2008, 2023). He has recently published “US-imposed Post-9-11 Muslim Holocaust & Muslim Genocide” (2020), and “Climate Crisis, Climate Genocide & Solutions” (2020), and contributed to Soren Korsgaard (editor) “The Most Dangerous Book Ever Published – Dangerous Deception Exposed!” (2020).
